A year or two back I saw Tom Skerritt at a local film festival; a woman turned to her companion and asked if he wanted a beer. He said anything was fine, then walked off and as he did, I said to no one "Wait, was that Tom Skerritt?" She smiled and confirmed it was.

RIP Tom Skerritt. A great actor who had an uncanny ability to show up in the most iconic movies, even if it was with the briefest part. I did a wide-ranging talk with him a few years ago that's still one of my favorite interviews [Gift link]: www.vulture.com/2021/10/tom-...

I turned to my coworkers, all of whom were were under 35, and said, "That was Tom Skerritt!" and none of them knew who he was. Then I made them all watch Alien and apologize (that last part didn't happen, but should've).

RIP to Tom Skerritt, one of my very favorite actors in some of my very favorite films. What a kind and good human being he was, too. I will never forget his visit to the Pickford for a screening of ALIEN; his warmth to all of us and his generosity of spirit will stay with us for a lifetime.

“Practical Magic” (1998) is a wild one because Nicole Kidman finished shooting Eyes Wide Shut, flew back to America, shot PM in its entirety, and saw it come out in theaters all before EWS was even finished. Anyway, RIP Kubrick and eternal congrats to Kidman for escaping her ex and his cult.
