Okay now I’m crying just thinking about how lucky we were to live at the same time David Lynch was active and creating new work, like holy hell for all the bullshit we have had to live through, we also got that, and that’s pretty fucking cool.

This gets misapplied to so many other people, but David Lynch was truly one of one.

Was just chatting w a friend about how watching / being obsessed w Mulholland Dr in early teen hood (especially the DVD questions) taught us to value journey over destination, investigation over answer, process over product. It without a doubt laid the foundation for how I find joy in life, period.

David Lynch gave us the language we needed to better articulate the indescribable strangeness of our shared reality. “Lynchian” is so overused because it’s a viscerally understandable word without any known synonyms. I can’t imagine a more beautiful artistic legacy than that.

To me, “cancel the Oscars” is an understandable but short-sighted take that ignores a) how important the entertainment industry is to LA, b) how much that industry has suffered in recent years, and c) the potential fundraising opportunity of a televised awards show.
