I grew up nearby, & am now an elder Witch, so also not Christian. But I was baptizes at the parish church and married the 1st time in the cathedral. The National Cathedral is a truly welcoming place for LGBTQIA+ people. Matthew Shephard is interred inside the Cathedral, safe from vandals or haters

His parents were worried that Matthew's final resting place would be disturbed by hateful graffiti or even vandalism. The interment service was years after Matthew's tragic murder. The first time I saw the Dalai Lama speak was there It's a place of peace and beauty, on a hill high above most of DC

I went to NCS, and though I am no longer Christian, some of my fondest memories were the time spent in the cathedral. The entire time we were there, it encompassed only the north and south transoms and part of the nave. I hope i can visit again before I die, so I can see it in person.

If I may share. 1 of the most severe punishments I received was when I was in diapers . My dad mowed the lawn . He told me ‘get your red wagon &bring it here’ . I went and got both my brother’s wagon & my own to save time gathering cut grass. My dad said he hit me because I disobeyed him. Braindead

I’m kinda in shock how much love and support I received . It’s so good to be here. I’m in a safe home with my partner of 26 yrs . I can drive anywhere . I can’t go out my front door without fear for some reason . The last beating he gave was in backyard with the switch from our old black walnut tree
