I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

After the first round elections, Congressman André Janones created a WhatsApp channel titled “Lula’s Army.” It ballooned to 10 million people following his commands on how to behave online to counteract Meta’s far-right-favouring algorithms. The right knows how to use socials. We must learn, too.

Hundreds of thousands of children were literally killed due to Elon Musk’s actions. Yet you will still see people treating him like just any public figure, buying Teslas, etc. The world is a dark place. Especially the parts that treat the rich as inherently more valuable than everyone else.

Male supremacism requires women to be strictly policed as subservient to & dominated by the only humans with an inherent right to power: Men. Anything that gives us any degree of autonomy over our bodies, lives, & futures (birth ctrl, abortion, no-fault-divorce, etc) threatens the whole system. 2/

Emily L. Hauser (she/her) ❌👑@emilylhauser.bsky.social

Misogyny is a supremacist ideology. As with all supremacist ideologies, its foundation is strict division: There are some to whom power inheres, & some who are by nature lesser-than & must be dominated. Rejection of the premise threatens the whole & requires strict policing. 2/

"bitches be lying" is the cornerstone of rape culture. Every piece of shit love to join the chorus against accusers. It's tactic number one to ensure that no one believes anyone ever.

There it is! Vivek Ramaswamy is taking credit for that attack ad featuring Amy Acton's estranged mother, who fled the state decades ago with her husband after he was charged with sexually abusing a 12-year-old Acton. www.dispatch.com/story/news/p...

And maybe I don't get furious about that because ... air we breathe. But this makes me furious. This is trying to discredit actual child abuse. It's so morally repugnant i quite literally don't have the words.

At a comedy show where the whole audience is dressed for errands except for the token hot girlies in the front row. I'm guessing someone performing tonight is a cutie

Omg this is a train? I thought it was a hydrofoil

I love taking the train between San Diego and Los Angeles since it's such a gorgeous view but there's just no way it'll still exist on the same track a generation from now. www.instagram.com/reels/DeSCAh...

Trumpism is a luxury good

Schooley@schooley.bsky.social

I think when things were going more or less fine, MAGA voters enjoyed Trump's shameless lying as they imagined all of the lib tears it provoked. I'm not sure that still works when things are not fine.

Well yeah but you shouldn't need to be a native new yorker with advanced outer-borough boomer decoding skills to understand the point that the president *of the united states* is trying to make

David S. Bernstein @dbernstein.bsky.social

This is being passed around as a total misrepresentation of what he said. Trump was saying - as he often does - that costs for Americans are a small price to pay for preventing Iran from getting nuclear missiles. He was saying ‘let them take out LA or SD’ as an example of what could happen then…

For better or for worse, I speak fluent Queens and I know what he's trying to say. He's saying high gas prices are a small price to pay, because if Iran were to take out a major city, we'd all feel very differently.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "With the war, it's just artificial. It's a little bit high. It's a small price to pay ... let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay."

In his first term he sounded like "guy at the end of the bar" or "median caller to WFAN" Now he's just drunk grandpa in the barcolounger spouting off.

In case you need a handy definition: Rape culture consists of attitudes and behaviors meant to reinforce the idea that women's bodies are meant for male sexual pleasure and consent is optional.

oh no, the scam everyone says is a scam may turn out to be a scam

This tidbit was in the article. 🎈💥 ? "Goldman Sachs warned Friday that AI hyperscalers, including Meta, need to generate roughly $300 billion a year in AI services revenue just to break even on their capital spending—and $1 trillion annually to earn meaningful profits—spooking investors."

All it took was getting kicked out of the White House press room and suddenly CNN remembers that "lie" is a word.

I *think* I've heard it? I listen to NY radio stations during the very limited time i'm in the car, and I hear pop music on spotify mixes. I don't think it's getting much airplay in NYC and spotify hasn't been including it with other pop.

This kind of take made a Rolling Stone writer so mad they wrote a whole piece about it.

Hey, someone give my friend a Big Thing of Riches, please

I'm exhausted. Doing the best work of my career but rarely getting paid for it. Living under fascist dipshits doing everything in their power to make things worse and more expensive. Not sleeping well. Saying goodbye to our dog last week. It's all... a lot. I'll be OK, but I need some good news.

The entire article is fantastic, but the writer's definition of a trad wife is *chef's kiss* perfection. "Those are conservative women who dress like the women in The Sound of Music, but without the opposition to the Anschluss."

The most "native New Yorker" thing about me is how I react to AI being overly obsequious. I'm always like "why are you kissing my ass? do you want money or something?"

I have the type of high cholesterol this drug targets sooo... this could potentially suck for me

This iconic 1971 photo of Gloria Steinem and Dorothy Pitman Hughes has always said so much without saying a word. Two women. Two raised fists. One shared fight for equality. Dorothy passed in 2022. Now Gloria is gone too. Two giants who helped change America. Rest in power, Gloria. ✊🏼✊🏾

Tim Curry and Dolly Parton have taught us not only that you should be bigger, weirder, gayer, and freakier, but also that those qualities are what people will love about you. The things that make you strange and amazing are the things that will resonate with other strange and amazing people

Lori G reposted

That CNN "Dolly Parton remained neutral in the culture wars" thing is the most hilariously wrong framing of a person's stances since people were talking about Muhammed Ali being "above politics" or whatever when he died. It's pathological.

The Empire State Building went pink at exactly 9:25pm for Dolly Parton. Because of course they made it 9 to 5. That’s how you honor an icon. 🩷

Lori G reposted

One of the more obscure facts I remember about Dolly Parton is this: just like Star Trek would not exist without Lucille Ball, Buffy would not exist without Dolly Parton. She was a silent producer of the movie and show. That's why Buffy Summers has the same birthday as Dolly: January 19.

One really good example of the Mandela Effect is the number of ppl who think that when they were kids someone tried to trick them by saying “Did you know that gullible isn’t listed in the dictionary?” - a thing that did not actually happen to anyone
