Thanks to booktok recommending only reading dialogue because "that's where books actually happen" I was able to finish The Power Broker in less than twenty minutes!

It’s volunteer appreciation week at my volunteer gig. I got a thank-you card from the staff. One of them wrote “your time and energy will go un-noticed!” and I thought he was so fucking real for that

I wouldn't advise viewing it anytime soon, but you can watch the entirety of Threads for free on YouTube.

If I had a wish for today, it would be that every elected official and Cabinet member were strapped to a chair and had their eyelids stuck open—Clockwork Orange-style—and were forced to watch Threads. It is unequivocally the most terrifying film I’ve ever seen, and it happens to concern nuclear war.

Once one nuke is fired, it’s neigh-impossible to come back down from the high rungs of the ladder of escalation. It is almost inevitable that more than one country will be affected. It’s likely that virtually every life on Earth will be put in jeopardy.

Threads portrays a nuclear apocalypse, mostly from the perspective of British civilians—the lead up, the moment, and the aftermath. The inciting incident that leads to a massive nuclear exchange happens to be in Iran. I’ll spare you the details, but the film is gruesome, brutal, and unflinching.

One of many reasons to love THE X-FILES is that it perfectly captures the beauty of befriending a coworker who you think is totally full of shit.

in no way the most important thing but it is incredibly jarring how many times people have opened up their devices in the last year to see autoplay videos of people being killed

New: CBS News seems to be preparing a new segment called "Whiskey Fridays with Tony Dokoupil," per sources. Some staff were only first made aware of it as they encountered CBS testing out set designs of a faux-stocked bar in the newsroom, featuring a large sponsor banner for Jack Daniels.
