Don't let what you think you have to do get in the way of actually having fun!

Seraphina Garcia Ramirez 🔜 Metatopia@seraphina.diceexploder.com

For Halloween, I'm embracing my most diabolical impulses. To that end, I've written a player advice manifesto on the One True Way to play games- Pawn Stance. Read it, and be horrified at the lack of nuance. Come fight me about it, if you dare. diceexploder.com/posts/pawn-s...

I've enjoyed playing with Todd's supplements for years, so I'm looking forward to this one.

A Game Master's Guide to Poisons is currently funding on Backerkit. It expands on poisons in #osr style games, with rules for harvesting venom from monsters, cost guidelines to buy and sell toxins, and tables to randomly generate poisons that are more than just "save or die". #ttrpg #dnd

This is right. Trump II is the worst administration in our history because Trump has no ideology beyond "evil" and is too lazy to govern, so he hands his power to whoever wants it. Every flavor of evil shows up, and each one gets the job where it can do the most damage.

This is the skeleton key to every mid PBTA game and session - people look at the moves and think they’re equivalent to, like, initiative mechanics or something. Like an optional add-on for flavor. No, man, they’re the *whole deal.* Ignore them and everything falls alll the way apart

TheDevinTeam@thedevteam.itch.io

I think a big problem is that players (and designers) look at the generic “do something” moves and think, “Oh this move does everything I need!” And, like, no they don’t. Your PBTA game needs specificity. Those generic moves should be used rarely and only in situations where the stakes are obvious.

Game genres are only really useful in an academic and retail setting. Otherwise they are invisible walls and tribes that become barriers for people to experience the full breath of what these types of games offer. Pbta and OSR are more alike than you think.

Hit me with your nuanced ttrpg take.

Great post about the continuum from sandbox to signposting to railroading!

Atmospheric Underworld@atmosphericunderworld.com

Signposting was what I named the underlying tension that drove me to the N/OSR. After months of wrestling with it, I think I've nailed down what it is, why GMs rely on it, and how it goes wrong. This post was months in the making; come check it out! atmosphericunderworld.com/signposting-...

It's always good to see a restatement of good RPG principles along with examples.

Prismatic Wasteland@prismaticwasteland.com

With a new baby and toddler, The Odyssey (2026) may be the last movie I'll see for a while, but I was still able to glean (or couldn't avoid gleaning) a few lessons from it for TTRPGs #osr #ttrpg

Politics scares me right now, but the world has recovered from far worse politics repeatedly in the past. There are so many good trends right now and many of the bad ones are fairly fixable (i.e. via more open immigration)

Lukewarm take: I feel a lot of pessimism about the present is built on not realizing just how bad the past was. Like if you just read a book about poverty in a first-world country in the 1950s it's staggeringly worse than now.

I like the interpretation of Landmark, Hidden, Secret used for NPCs. Credit to Nael and a few others for posting about it!

This is definitely along the same lines as what I discussed on my blog earlier this year, but more focused on practice in a specific culture. I'm looking forward to seeing what Isaac does with Oddipelago! link to my prior post for those interested - table46.bearblog.dev/magic-in-the...

Another entry for the Indonesian TTRPG Blogwagon from me. I suuuuuuuuuuck at designing mechanics and procedures, but I'm trying anyway. Here's a magic system based on Indonesian occult practice where you negotiate it instead of casting it yourself! afraidofencounters.bearblog.dev/indonesian-t...

I've long thought that writing rooms in pairs was an idea that could be expanded on and this is a great way to do it.

Rise Up (From the Grave) Comus@riseupcomus.bsky.social

I've been thinking about megadungeon nodes this week. To create a megadungeon in HIS MAJESTY THE WORM, you lay out a tarot spread. The cards represent discrete levels (I provide prompts called "dungeon seeds'), and the value creates connections between them.

Clayton makes a great point here that I think a lot of people dont realize. People pay attention when all you have to say is negative. You are digging yourself a grave made of your own discontent- the internet isn't actually a good place to complain.

I should get better at this and so should you! Short blog posts are great and they're much easier to refer to later than Discord messages.

I could knock a lot of yellow off this map with one trip to New England. If we knock the standard for stayed a while from a month to a week, you can add California and Texas to stayed a while. Also, Delaware isn't real and you can't make me believe in it.

Closer to the full set than I thought! I should plan a big northern train adventure.

I am embarking on a grand adventure, running more or less the same content in parallel for two different groups in two different systems. In the 1st session of our In Search of the Unown Into the Oddish game, the player Pokémon venture to Quagsqueton & begin their first foray into the dungeon!

I love this! It's very similar to how what I call "items of power" develop in my Jewelsea setting.

NEW BLOG POST!!! A distillation of my deeply held beliefs on elfgame design, evolved from my previous posts on setting design which suffer from early onset linkrot, and confusingly enough ending with me talking about Deathbringer for 2 paragraphs? But not really. Gaze upon my works, ye mortals.

I'm always here for questions of "what is system?" which I think this post does a good job of elucidating.

here's another question about masculinity and seven-part pact i want to share with all of you. i have a tremendous amount of compassion for the asker and the question of "how do i make this game, which is playing with fire for my fellow trans women specifically, not burn them too hard"

An excellent and thoughtful review of Deathbringer's marketing and art direction. I'm glad Liz put in this work.

Magnolia Keep@magnoliakeep.itch.io

From the brilliant mind of Magnolia Keep comes a high-octane look at some kinda gross stuff! Deathbringer is ENWorld's most-anticipated RPG of 2026, it's currently raising hundreds of thousands of dollars, and also the marketing is kinda full of misogyny. magnoliakeep.blogspot.com/2026/07/the-...
