The Critical Darlings episode on You Can See Everything is an absolute must-listen, Jia Tolentino has the most compelling read on Holmes I’ve heard yet.
I would like to announce that today I made a very tasty stir fry sauce out of soy sauce, sesame oil, gochujang paste, and apple cider. Cooked tofu, Napa cabbage, and dangmyeon (sweet potato noodles) in it and both Anne & I thought it was delicious.
You Can See Everything is about authenticity (of course it is!) and after seeing it I’m rolling a bunch of ideas about authenticity/performance and how social expectations of “realness” intersect with being on the autism spectrum
is Elizabeth Holmes on the spectrum? is Nathan Fielder? does it matter? but I think we can all agree that [SPOILER] is a roided-up cocaine-snorting psychopath!
finally got the September roundup posted, where I of course gush about CYE’s jazz-infused EP and cry a little over Soyeon: www.mainewitchonpop.com/blog/september-2026-k-pop-roundup
at first I was trying to work this out via my dad babysitting for Al Franken (dad was dating Franken’s SIL for a while) but then I remembered I have a much closer connection and the world is small
literally why would you use AI art when you could scroll through open source paintings from museums and find a cool art for your thing AND also look at million funny pictures of extremely bored people sitting for portraits
It feels like I have an entirely different (much more disorderly) brain, which seems backward considering I 1) wrote a whole dissertation with unmedicated ADHD and 2) I am now medicated for ADHD which does make 90% of my life easier to organize! so what gives!!
Opinion: If AI is now part of academic writing, what should institutions actually evaluate? This essay argues that analytical writing should be judged by evidence, structure, argument, and accountability not by guesses about how each sentence was produced. https://chroni.cl/4eDRdjg
I’ve come around to mostly positive on #queenofdivorce but the thing that I find most frustrating about it is the heroine’s resistance to recognizeling her ex-husband’s capacity for violence against women — against HER — despite repeatedly experiencing it firsthand
potentially controversial #kpop opinion but of the 4th gen (debuted between 2018 and 2023, roughly), Soyeon is the most capable *live* performer — she’s got incredible control over her whole body (including her voice) and the charisma of an old-school movie star youtu.be/Cesu35SBPD4?...
I think sometimes people count her out as a vocalist because her tone is distinctive and not always conventionally “pleasant,” but nothing she’s doing is unintentional. Not to mention that she’s easily one of the strongest idol rappers. Truly at the top of her craft.
I just burst out laughing in this diner because BBC News showed a tweet from Macron which began “No room for violence in our Republic.”
Oh WORD?????? THEE French Republique????? That one??? My, my, my. Modern executioners carry erasers instead of axes.
This is inspiring in the way that kids running a lemonade stand to pay for their friend's chemotherapy is inspiring: the kids are amazing but they should never have to do this.
if this inspires you at all, let it inspire you to create a real right to vote so they can just vote on campus.
These are students from HBCU North Carolina A&T marching back to their campus after voting early together
The Guilford County Board of Elections removed their on-campus polling site

Academic friends: I am looking for texts (from any field or discipline) that address play/playfulness as either an analytical tool or a form of feminist praxis. I know this comes up in Haraway’s work but I’m wondering what else is out there. Thank you in advance for any guidance!

it’s pretty crazy how much better I feel when I’m dosed to the gills on NSAIDs and potent antivirals! right now it feels like I got punched in the eye but several weeks ago rather than several hours ago!
real question: why are antiviral pills so giant? keep in mind that I have pretty large hands for an average woman (I wear a size 9 ring for example) so this thing is a monster compared to most tablets
Today marks 28 years since Matthew Shepard died, beaten to death for daring to be out in 1998.
In 2021, his mother Judy testified for my bill to ban the anti-LGBTQ panic defense here in Virginia so people kill or assault us for simply existing. I’m grateful for her work and the advocates who helped.
