Calling out churches for violating the law isn’t “persecution” or “intimidation.” Churches are free to preach whatever they want, but tax-exempt status comes with rules. If pastors want to operate as political operatives, they can pay taxes like everyone else.

“You’ve lost ANOTHER war?”

Trump: "We'll take care of Cuba on our way back from Iran ... those beautiful ships, they'll pass Cuba. We'll have one of them stop about 50 yards off the coast. They'll raise up their hands, and then we're gonna send Marco Rubio in."

“We don’t ride bicycles in Iowa…” Iowa kids:

Joe Mitchell: "Thank God you're building the ballroom. Thank God you're getting rid of those awful bike lanes. We don't ride bicycles in Iowa."

New research on the "empathy gap" suggests that religiously unaffiliated Americans are most likely to consider empathy foundational. Crazy... it's almost like believing in god isn't a prerequisite for having good values! Wild concept!

More complaining about it the Wordle Bot: In what world is guessing “pence” more efficient than guessing “bench?” With the given of EN, bench eliminates B, C, and H as candidate letters. While “pence” eliminates only P and C. I guess it’s possible there’s a double E, but that’s unusual.

It’s only more efficient if you happen to know that P is one of the letters you need. Or if you know all the remaining possible words, and know several have a P in them (which I suspect is what wordle-bot does). But that’s unrealistic for a human player.

If we didn’t suck as a nation this kind of statement would end a guy’s political career.

LOL -- JD Vance says "I've endorsed one foreign candidate in my entire life, and it didn't go particularly well, as much as I'm very much an admirer of Orban"

I think the thing that bugs me the most isn’t just that the entire GOP are the lowest, most dishonest, griftingest slimeballs in the country, but that 40-50% of the american electorate are like “Yessss! That’s my guy!!!!”

Laura Chapin@laurachapin.bsky.social

And Republican Gov candidated Vivek Ramaswamy just release an ad from a woman who stayed with the man who abused her daughter *calling Amy Acton a liar*. It's not just Trump. The entire Republican Party is sick and rotten to the core.

Unconscionable to be on “X” at this point. Just a cesspit. Except for banking; I do my banking there & don’t see a problem.

a norwegian on Threads posted this and i just don’t know how much more clearly we can emphasize how much Americans are being ripped off by our system which is built to concentrate wealth at the top

I feel seen.

#NoKings in front of my building today and this is perfect since Putin’s stooge has spent the last week and last night selling out Ukraine and enabling the killing of innocent civilians by his pimp in Moscow.

Is “fop” an obscure, pompous, or grandiose word now? I thought it was fairly commonly known but generally disused.

Grandiloquent Word of the Day@grandiloquentwords.bsky.social

Fop [fop] (n.) 1. A man concerned overmuch with his clothes and appearance in an affected way; a dandy. 2. A conceited fool. (v.) 1. To make a fool of; to deceive or dupe. 2. To act foolishly. From Late Middle English “foppe” or “fobbe” (fop, fool) from German “foppen” (to jeer)

Holy shit…this is hilarious!

I used “covfefe” in a book when that first happened. Was part of a drow phrase meaning “an affliction of mrrors” (Narcissism) I got dozens of angry emails and FB pms from Trumpers.

Don’t be too hard on Katie Zacharia. To be Trump’s Press Secretary, you have to listen to him lie, write down his lies, repeat those lies to a White House press corps that dutifully transcribes the lies and repeats those lies to the public as if they might not be lies. It’s not as easy as it sounds.

Straightforward and well laid out reality check regarding the supposed death of right wing misinfo when the yandex data center was hit in russia. Definitely worth a watch.

Ukraine took out Yandex, (aka Russia's Google). Contrary to viral posts, this did NOT reduce the number of far-right social media posts. That was just misinformation about misinformation. skepchick.org/2026/10/ukra...

Good for Brazil! But you know what would be funny? If we went to a four day work week now! Let’s do it…you know for the lols!

What if someone passed a law making spoofed phone numbers illegal in all cases. If some stupid rep/corp/charity wants to spam my phone for business/donations I should be able to call them back and more importantly block their number. It’s ridiculous how much everything sucks nowadays.

The only reason I can think that insurance companies aren’t freaking out about this dumbfuckery is they hope it makes the ACA insolvent and it somehow results in its cancellation.

RFK Jr announces a new initiative to kick people off their healthcare coverage but insists it's no big deal because "they don't even know they were enrolled in anything. They never make a claim."

Gee…why would people want to uncouple from the fossil fuel economy?!? I can’t imagine.

I don’t know if “weird” is the right descriptor for me. I mean I’m kind of normal-core in general appearance and demeanor. But I definitely feel like I have ZERO in common with 98% of the people I meet in day-to-day life.

Gail Simone@gailsimone.bsky.social

QUESTION OF THE DAY: This sounds like a joke question, but it isn’t. If it doesn’t apply to you, fine. But it’s a serious question with different levels of meaning. And I am genuinely curious. When did you first realize you were weird?
