Calling out churches for violating the law isn’t “persecution” or “intimidation.” Churches are free to preach whatever they want, but tax-exempt status comes with rules. If pastors want to operate as political operatives, they can pay taxes like everyone else.

Also, FFRF is nonpartisan. We’ve reported churches for endorsing Democrats, too. We don’t care which party a church supports. The same rules apply to everyone. This isn’t about silencing conservative pastors. It’s about holding tax-exempt organizations to the same standards.

Christian nationalism doesn't need to become a full-blown theocracy to be dangerous. When government promotes Christianity in schools and uses religious beliefs to restrict our rights, the threat is already here. We must fight back before it becomes the norm.

An essay in Christianity Today says concerns about Christian Nationalism are exaggerated. But even that defense points to support for teacher-led prayers, Ten Commandments displays in schools, and Christian “moral values.” Those are real threats! www.friendlyatheist.com/p/a-sociolog...

America is not a Christian nation. It was never founded as one. That doesn't stop 45% of Americans from saying we *should be* a Christian nation. This election is our chance to show up loudly on the side of secular democracy. Vote Nov. 3, or vote early today in most states. ffrf.us/vote

Our rights don't come from your god or anyone else's. They’re protected by a secular Constitution, not granted by a supernatural being. If rights came from God, they’d depend on whose god you believe in. That’s precisely why separating religion and government matters.

There’s a third option: Reject this insane religious fearmongering and live a free life without worrying about imaginary threats of eternal torture.

The White House belongs to Americans of every religion and no religion. If they want to turn it into a megachurch, the least they could do is start paying property taxes.

Christian nationalism in a nutshell: political loyalty as a test of religious legitimacy.

After decades of sexual abuse scandals, Catholic leaders still seem more concerned with punishing those who reject their authority than holding abusers accountable. A damning indictment of an institution that claims to be a moral authority.

Hemant Mehta@friendlyatheist.com

Scott Peyton's son was abused by a priest. Despite being a deacon, Peyton left the Catholic Church to worship elsewhere... so the Church excommunicated him. The priest? He's still technically a priest in the Church's eyes. Read that again. www.friendlyatheist.com/p/catholic-c...

Only five false claims in a minute? David Barton would be disappointed. Those are rookie numbers.

This is how authoritarianism gets wrapped in religion. When a politician is seen as doing God’s work, questioning him becomes questioning God. That’s a dangerous mindset in a democracy. No leader is divinely appointed or above accountability.

Children need love, stability, security and support. None of those things requires two biological parents. Plenty of single parents, adoptive parents and same-sex couples raise wonderful kids. The obsession with one “biblical” family model ignores what actually matters.

They’re not even pretending this is about religious freedom anymore. They’re openly discussing plans to seize political power and impose their religious ideology on everyone else. When Christian nationalists tell us what they intend to do, we should believe them.

Right Wing Watch @rightwingwatch.bsky.social

Racist white nationalist pastor Joel Webbon says his upcoming conference will begin the process of laying out "battle plans" for "Christian nationalists on the right to be able to seize power": "This is here to stay. And it's not if we win, it's when we win" www.peoplefor.org/rightwingwat...

Religious freedom should never be a shield for child abuse or medical neglect. When faith conflicts with a child’s right to live, protecting the child must come first. No religious belief should ever override that responsibility.

Elizabeth Struhs needed insulin to stay alive. Her parents withheld it and prayed instead. Now a Queensland inquest is examining whether government officials and health care workers could have prevented her death. www.friendlyatheist.com/p/elizabeth-...

Religious organizations shouldn’t get a free pass when it comes to government oversight. If faith-based groups are exploiting vulnerable workers, they should face the same scrutiny and accountability as anyone else. Religious freedom is not a license to break the law.

Hemant Mehta@friendlyatheist.com

After years of being stonewalled in their FOIA requests, @atheists.org is suing U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. They want information about oversight of faith-based groups who say they bring in workers on R-1 religious worker visas. atheists.org/news/litigat...

Radical Islam is dangerous, but its presence in the U.S. is relatively small. Christian nationalism, meanwhile, has substantial political influence and seeks to enshrine religious beliefs into law. One is a fringe movement here. The other has a seat at the table of power.

OUR Religion? WE don't have a religion. The Constitution protects everyone’s right to practice their religion, change their religion, or reject religion altogether.

The most dangerous thing about blind faith is that it can convince otherwise decent people to commit unimaginable atrocities while believing they’re doing God’s will. There is no belief so sacred that it should be beyond questioning.

The Botkin sisters deserve credit for admitting the harm they caused. But they were teenagers when religious fundamentalists used them to promote female submission. The real problem is an ideology that treats women’s independence as rebellion and their subjugation as virtue.

Hemant Mehta@friendlyatheist.com

The Botkin sisters once told Christian girls to serve their fathers until marriage, then serve their husbands. Now they’re apologizing for all the harm that message caused. www.friendlyatheist.com/p/they-told-...

Your freedom from prison should never depend on surrendering your freedom of religion. Kudos to American Atheists and Colorado advocates for securing this important victory. Recovery should be about getting help, not being coerced into religious participation.

Hemant Mehta@friendlyatheist.com

Colorado parolees shouldn’t have to choose between their beliefs and staying out of prison. After years of advocacy by atheists and allies, the state has agreed to offer secular recovery options. Here’s how organizers made it happen. www.friendlyatheist.com/p/colorado-p...

I’m not sure you understand what “science,” “truth,” or even “understand” mean. But confidently misusing all three in one sentence is impressive.

And when people put God above human rights, equality, science, and the Constitution, everything else suffers. We’ve seen what happens when religion takes priority over people. That’s why secular government matters.

Apparently, in Mark Meckler’s version of “sane times,” Christians get religious liberty and everyone else gets tarred and feathered.

Right Wing Watch @rightwingwatch.bsky.social

Mark Meckler says that "in sane times" the person who delivered the satanic invocation would have been tarred and feathered and the members of the city council would have been "physically removed" from of office."

Imagine being so terrified of a teenage girl playing a fictional character that you’d rather cancel an entire musical than let students enjoy the arts. This isn’t protecting children. It’s punishing them to appease right-wing extremists.

Hemant Mehta@friendlyatheist.com

A Texas district canceled a high school production of "Little Shop of Horrors" after a girl was cast as Seymour. Officials cited the state's anti-drag law (which was struck down in court), then offered other lazy excuses. What a debacle. www.friendlyatheist.com/p/texas-scho...

The choice isn’t between Christian nationalism and “atheistic globalism.” It’s between a free society with equal rights and a theocracy ruled by religious zealots. We cannot let Christian nationalists take away our constitutional freedoms.

Nothing says “Christian love” quite like threatening violence because someone exercised their First Amendment rights. Christian nationalists love religious freedom until someone else exercises it.

Right Wing Watch @rightwingwatch.bsky.social

Christian nationalist commentator Mark Meckler brags that he "might have got arrested for assault" if he had been in the room when a member of the Satanic Temple of Iowa recently delivered an invocation before a city council meeting. www.peoplefor.org/rightwingwat...

Science doesn’t require eyewitnesses. It requires evidence. And unlike your creation myth, dinosaurs left behind millions of years’ worth of it.

What exactly is a “constitutional faith”? That’s not a legal category. You’re just making things up. Many Christian nationalists advocate beliefs that directly contradict the Constitution. Does that mean Christianity isn’t a “constitutional faith” either?

We're suing the Trump administration. Americans deserve to know how much of our tax dollars were misused to promote a Christian nationalist worship service. Read more ➡️ ffrf.us/4dAp1O3

Oh really? That’s weird, because the Constitution explicitly prohibits religious tests for public office. So who should we believe about America’s founding principles: a pastor spouting nonsense about our history or the actual Constitution?

Christian nationalist MAGA pastor Lorenzo Sewell says it is the job of the church to select our elected leaders: "The preachers were always meant to pick the politicians, to anoint the politicians, and to appoint the politicians."

It’s remarkable how quickly “the sanctity of life” goes out the window when cruelty becomes the point. These religious zealots claim to have a monopoly on morality, yet they seem far more interested in celebrating suffering than preventing it.

Hemant Mehta@friendlyatheist.com

Prominent white evangelical leaders don’t want kids watching Ms. Rachel. They say Pride flags are dangerous. They want "Thou shalt not kill" posted in classrooms. But a live-streamed government-sponsored execution? That's just fine. www.friendlyatheist.com/p/the-pro-li...

You’re claiming to defend the Bill of Rights while demanding that the government ban an entire religion. The irony is staggering. The First Amendment protects Muslims, Christians, atheists and everyone else. Religious freedom isn't reserved for people who share your beliefs.
