Exciting update! You can run Image Based Meta-Analyses (IBMA) on our platform 🚀 We've known for ~TWO decades that images are better than coordinates, but data has never been shared/organized properly to make that an accessible reality. We did it, enjoy: compose.neurosynth.org

Trump’s secret police presence nowadays isn’t even ***that*** secret! If you go to, say, Springfield Ohio right now, ICE isn’t trying to hide that they’ve invaded

Chris Markiewicz reposted

The current strategy of making their secret police more secret because the White House realized how their live streamed death squad approach was actually significantly hurting them with swing voters in an election year absolutely was intentional, per sources who helped manufacture it It’s our job…

Probably unintentionally, the Trump administration played the perfect strategy for our broken media and "opposition" party. They did all the most boisterous, spectacle-driven stuff early and now that they're just casually running an immigrant exterminationist regime the press is bored by it.

It’s truly astonishing to see how comprehensively the US government is tearing down every part of the system that has made it up until now a world-leading power in science, research, and technological development. The entire world will suffer from this wanton destruction.

OSS burnout claims another project. On 2 Apr, an entitled user angrily asked the burned-out maintainer of nvim-treesitter to “go switch to something that doesn't require interacting with people”. The maintainer replied “OK” — and archived the repo, stopping development of nvim-treesitter.

Every system that was regulated, either explicitly or implicitly, by the fact that they were effortful for humans (letters of recommendation, government filings, essays, or, as this paper finds, lawsuits) will break under a wave of AI.

When you add it all up, the collapse in immigration looks like this: a decline of roughly 50K for illegal (even including the people arrested and not released) and a decline of about 132K for legal. Over 70% of the cut in immigration has come from LEGAL immigration.

Everyone here has had to decide what they will and won’t do. Will you take someone in your house? Will you bring them groceries? Will you patrol streets with a whistle? Will you do some other kind of work, of which there are many. And how many of these types.

Chuck Schumer just announced demands on DHS to avoid shutdown: 1. End roving patrols, tighten rules on warrants 2. Enforce accountability & unified code of conduct for agents 3. No more masks & require bodycams There are *already* standards on much of this. The issue is DHS isn't following them!

Dems should introduce lots of such legislation, demand hearings and debate, make a huge fuss, use paid media to call out GOP members who are blocking their consideration--and make clear this GOP Congress is enabling the madness.

Chris Markiewicz reposted

Yes, the GOP controls Congress. That's why it's key to show Congress COULD stop the madness. And it's not just the DHS bill. Congress could repeal the prior multi-year $75b for DHS; set up a special investigative committee (cf. Watergate); amend the Insurrection Act; etc.
