In recent cases, it's not that AI somehow "escaped containment" or "went rogue." That's anthropomorphizing at best. It's more like if a Boston Dynamics robot dog nudged open an already open door and walked in.

i would love 1000% less "can women trust any man" and 1000% more "what would a world look like where women are structurally less vulnerable to untrustworthy men" in feminist blogging these days

my humble thought for the woke 2 planning committee is to promote proportionality when engaging in Discourse Online(tm). If one seeks tea, ask how much there really is, what has been steeping in it, who is serving it, and consider what bitterness comes when it’s too hot for too long ☯️

I am once again fantasizing about respectable employment doing something that benefits society in a tangible way

I sometimes fantasize about becoming postal carrier. I'm sure it has its downsides, but a union job that is basically walking around listening to audiobooks sounds just about perfect on certain days.

So about ten years ago I found a small network of bots on Reddit dedicated to spreading hate. The thing about it is that these weren't even responding to political topics - they were just responding to random keywords with insults and hate. The same bots are now here. You should understand why. 🧵

this is kind of a niche issue but: if you are getting weird and hostile responses that feel a little off, there are some folks on here making accounts that automatically reply to large quantities of posts in a vaguely hostile manner. you can ignore them, and also, it's not personal

More thoughts on Bluesky & business models. We need social networks with business models akin to Craigslist, where money is intentionally left on the table. Do you think they could live with that? tedium.co/2024/12/05/b... new @tedium.co

Every public action on Bluesky is available via a stream of events known as the firehose. By monitoring the firehose for repeated text, it is sometimes possible to quickly detect groups of spam accounts as they spawn.
