It’s hard to know which should be first. I feel like treason against the US who aided Russia while it helped Iran target us is very important. Or the January 6 Jack Smith investigation. Or stealing classified documents. But I agree that Venezuela is *high* on the list.
When the next US Congress investigates corruption, Trump's oil-deal-of-the-century with Alejandro Betancourt, the face of Venezuelan corruption, should be top of its list. Two kleptocracies working together. Brilliant essay by @anneapplebaum.wsocial.eu www.theatlantic.com/magazine/202...

Obama on Iran: Remember, they said, "Oh, this is the best war ever. It's going great." So, seven months later, how's that war going? Our allies and our bases have been attacked. Americans have been killed. Hundreds of Americans have been wounded. We have run down our stock of missiles.

He hasn’t lost his amazing ability to make up shit as he goes along.
Trump: "In Washington, all the restaurants were closing. People were being held up. They'd walk into a restaurant. Like Jesse James. 'Stand up! Give us all your money.' They're eating dinner at a fancy restaurant. All the restaurants were closing."

Was howling when he said this!
Obama: "That well-known evil empire Canada. That historical adversary of ours. Canada! *laughs* It's your neighbor. It's a few minutes' drive over the bridge! These are the people who gave us Martin Short and maple syrup. They are the nicest people! And someone we've gotten them so mad."

"Right now, we’re living in Trump’s world, in Vance’s world, in Hegseth’s world. .. This is what a world without empathy looks like. It’s a world of constant othering, of constant rage .. But nothing flourishes in that world." This is very well articulated A fascinating read:
New in PN: In defense of empathy "Being aware of other people’s feelings, sensitive to them, and able to put yourself in another person’s shoes is pretty much essential for humans to function as a community. But the current conservative project has zero room for that sort of thing."

no matter how sure you are that these guys have broken a whole bunch of laws, you aren't nearly as certain as they are
“Several conservative organizations …— including the Heritage Foundation and American Moment — have pressed White House counsel to either prepare pardons or put in place funding for the legal fees necessary to defend junior staffers from criminal and congressional probes or potential lawsuits.”

Starlink service in Ukraine was brought back online after Congressional Republicans warned the White House they would stall all of President Trump’s nominees until access was reinstated, as the outage was growing into a political liability for vulnerable lawmakers.
Starlink is again operating at a speed of over 400 km/h. The connection remains stable, - Defense Minister Khmara. www.reuters.com/science/spac...

the navy isn't as much of a surprise but i was not expecting we'd get the United States Marines in the national divorce
Woah - boards of service in the Marines and the Navy are ignoring Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth's order to purge transgender troops from the military. "Navy and Marine Corps boards have voted to retain trans members in nine of 12 cases." www.nytimes.com/2026/10/23/u...

Best way to understand MAGA is as a version of the Star Trek episode "A Piece of the Action" but instead of basing their society around an old book about gangland Chicago they based it on the Epstein Files.
Trump: "Ramaswamy put up a very powerful Ad about a mother saying that her daughter, Acton, is a liar, and much worse. The Press is trying to get him to 'take down the Ad.' Frankly, anybody whose mother spoke about daughter that way would normally lead to the daughter being precluded from serving"

Hegseth’s staff broke Eisenhower’s globe. The symbolism is too much to bear. (And of course, they ignored the TRAINED EXPERTS WHO HANDLE HISTORICAL ITEMS. Because EDUCATION? EXPERTISE? WHO NEEDS IT?….im going to get some coffee…)
"Ordinarily, moving historical items within the building is a deliberate process overseen by curators. Hegseth’s staff dispatched its own team to relocate an Eisenhower globe. They dropped it...The resulting gash appears to be several inches wide." wapo.st/3WF2YQo

About a decade or two ago this country decided the role of a public intellectual was to use unnecessarily long words to say stupid things. And that’s Malcolm Gladwell’s whole career.
“In recent years, many Americans have decided that their country’s problem was that it had too many police officers, when in fact its problem was that it had too few,” Malcolm Gladwell writes:
Every accusation is a confession. Every. Single. One.
Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.
“Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.” We are at war with Iran. Russia is helping Russia target our soldiers and facilities. Donald is helping Russia.
Ukraine was winning the war, so Trump kneecapped Ukraine to help Russia. I wish it weren’t that simple, but it is. Our president is in bed with our enemies.
Yikes. Be careful out there.
We're aware of a phishing attack that has compromised more than 4,500 accounts. The attack spread through posts promoting a fake offer of a government payment. We have temporarily suspended the compromised accounts and are working with their owners to secure them and restore access.
