can’t think of a better example of AI being mostly a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist also it can’t help when this is your user base

Mike Drucker@mikedrucker.bsky.social

Just saw someone say their AI runs their fantasy football team and I can’t stop laughing. Like, I’m sure everyone’s doing it or something but it’s very funny to me that pretending to be a team manager was so hard that you needed to pretend to pretend to be a team manager

It’s very simple and it’s been said over and over but I guess it needs saying continuously: if you deem one group too small to have equal rights you are enabling fascism, not fighting it. The people saying Dems are GREAT on trans rights are not paying attention and/or saying stuff like this.

Trump: "We spent more than $2 billion in FEMA funding. You're waiting for some additional funding. I'm gonna get that to you. Now if Michael loses, I'm not sending it." Crowd: *groans*

“trump will destroy everything he cannot own in perpetuity” is one reason i am filled with dread over 2028

This is not really a defense but this has been a problem since the beginning of Gmail, not really a new AI thing. For whatever reason, if they can't use the original semantic web /pagerank search they made their money on, their search algorithms in their tools are absolute dogshit.

Oh I fuckin hate it out here. Yesterday I had to search Gmail for the quotation-enclosed string “code of conduct” and Gmail showed me every email that contains the word “of”

I believe in the Oxford comma, as much as I believe in serial killers, rotator cuff injuries and spontaneous diarrhea, none of which I also want in my life

Big talk from a guy who doesn’t believe in the Oxford comma, I don’t wanna hear NOTHIN grammatical from you

Yeah, do not use AI detectors. This is kinda why I don't do any call outs or name and shame, there are far, far too many false accusations of AI use happening, and while I'll decline game when the artstyle doesn't pass my sniff test, the possibility for harm if I did put someone on blast is real.

Social media is cooking our collective brains. While “banning kids from using it” isn’t much of a solution - adults are no less cooked - a lot of reactions to reform proposals sound like when you try to take a bottle from an alcoholic

I think this analysis is correct but I also think it's possible that Bob Iger specifically sucked shit, and that we only gave him credit because Chapek sucked even more shit

The professor who "just asks questions" about GLP has a habit of doing this kind of stuff apparantly. The clinical evidence supporting penile shrinkage in adults taking finasteride is essentially nil and comes largely from online forums misreading a study involving rats.

Replying to @scalzi.com

I genuinely do wonder if the people giving the hot takes about Bluesky being a bubble or an echo chamber really do think everyone else here is a disembodied brain in a nutrient bath that has no other contact with the world and other people aside from what they see here, it sure seems like it

I live in a county that went 81% for Trump, in a representative district that hasn't gone blue in nine decades, in a state with a gerrymandered GOP supermajority, in a country run by a kleptocrat and his compliant Republican cronies, but sure, I live in a bubble because I'm on fucking Bluesky

Corey Atad@coreyatad.com

i think, end of the day, the real problem with Bluesky is that most of its users are here *because* they want to be in a bubble. and they can tell themselves that it’s just about not being around Nazis it supporting Musk, and that’s part of it, but also there’s a palpable desire to be ensconced.

Complains about sissy little bluesky libs wanting to live in a safe space bubble Disables replies Many such cases!

People are way too chill on Blue sky. There should be more arguments and disagreement. Except when people disagree with me specifically; that is called a dog pile and it should be a hate crime.

I hate to be a doomer generally but it's weird watching people act like these Georgia supreme Court elections are going to stick when the governor has the absolute authority to just cancel the elections after the fact and appoint anybody he wants

People here are being really shitty, including at fellow journalists who might have been startled just a moment before biting into a big fully dressed hot dog. Journalists who may have reflexively squeezed the bun and sent the sausage sailing across the room into the delicate champagne tower

The funniest thing about getting into retro TV apps and streams is how many people you'll see say shit like "I'm loving this hobby, does anyone have any recordings from my childhood? Like 2019?"

Q: A number of Republicans are calling on you to apologize for that post. Is that something you're going to do? Trump: No, I didn't make a mistake. It was fine. I guess it was a takeoff from The Lion King. And certainly it was a very strong post

Hmm. I agree with some of this -- the fetishization of physical books can be a bit much. "Cracking their spines," come on -- but part of the issue is concern about Anthropic both benefiting from copyrighted works *and* potentially locking them away.

Quantian@quantian.bsky.social

Bluesky is mad because people here fetishize the physical object of a book as a symbol rather than the meaningful information it contains. I’m sure Elsevier et al would love the hypothetical IP regime where you only have usufruct to your books and it’s illegal to destroy them or transfer ownership!

Like, I was similarly conflicted about Google Books but at least there the goal was to make the text publicly searchable. Here, Anthropic is locking the text away in their proprietary database. They certainly have the right to burn the books if they wish, the text is my bigger concern

I don't really know the answer. The former status quo sucked shit for authors trying to make a living. The Brave New world probably will too. I guess people will still find a way to write anyway.

Impossible not to be overwhelmed with reverence and gratitude for the people of Minneapolis. They won. They were smart, resilient, peaceful without being pushovers. If this really is a turning point, we owe them everything.

Can't believe anyone would think there could be any negative effects from drowning kids in Elon musk's csam generator, or Mark zuckerberg's torment machine

Standing on a train platform listening to the latest Hard Fork and, I'm sorry, but I'm not sure Jonathan Haidt understands what causation means. Hosts ask him to explain how he's proven causation and he cites single examples of individualized harm which have nothing to do with his broad thesis.

Justin McElroy gets a lot of criticism for certain Gamer Opinions, but I think Frushtick calling Hades 2 repetitive and then admitting he picks the exact same weapons and boons in every single run might be the most clinically insane thing I've ever heard said on a podcast.
