I've discovered that sometimes it's cool to listen to older masters of songs that have been remastered to hear how the focus changed between versions. Especially if they've been remastered several times.

TERFs are disgusting bigoted pieces of trash and insufferable whiny busybodies. nobody likes them except deranged Twitterbrained racists yet they own the entire British media and law system because one petty mediocre writer has infinite money to spend on her pet obsession with kids’ private parts.

so we've gone from people announcing "difficult decisions" to promising them, how long do you think it'll be before they just admit they're celebrating them? revelling in them.

The A.V. Club@avclub.com

Following the final approval of the Warner Bros.-Paramount merger, CEO David Ellison promises "difficult decisions that affect our workforce." tinyurl.com/5n7jnxe4 That's all, folks—Skydance immediately hints at massive layoffs

on one hand it's all very true, on the other hand idk if pointing out all the stupid stuff i've done is good to do if a apply for a job and it gets as far as the employer deciding to check out my social media presence. Ok that's a big "as if"

Just how much of the AI ecosystem is people watching over the AI to make sure it doesn't do things it's not supposed to? Like it feels like the claims AI companies make about the abilities of the tech to automate stuff is constantly being undermined by the fact it has to be supervised.

Because they have laws that don't suck. If your country has laws that suck, remember that that is not the only option. Get involved in changing those laws, even if you can only manage something as little as voting in your next election.

Why do Japanese studios suffer fewer layoffs? Because they have smaller teams and don't pay their execs $30m, says one expert www.eurogamer.net/japan-game-d...

It's funny how when they're fighting the Borg in TNG, the only way to bypass their shields was to change frequency and shoot rainbows at them. Even back then, our only defence against robo-fascism was the LGBTQ+ community.

I swear it almost feels like the only way to find good home media versions of anything is on DVD, VHS or Laserdisc. The moment they invented blu rays and streaming it was all over.

Animation Obsessive@ani-obsessive.bsky.social

The Disney renaissance movies used to look different. They were planned to be printed on 35 mm film -- that's how they were first released. Modern editions skip that last step in the process. It was a highly developed, overlooked craft, as we explore: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/disneys-fi...

This was sitting in my drafts for about a week before I decided what it really needed was a bunch of links pointing to people doing the exact thing I was doing but without the mistakes I'd made that drove me to doing this instead. So... if you wanna be recommended cool stuff, scroll to the bottom.

I tell people all the time that I got lucky with my career and it annoys a lot of them. "No, but you're good," they will say, and I will say, yes, I am good, and also here are all these people who write as well as I do but did not get the same break, so being good isn't the issue, being lucky is.

John Wiswell@wiswell.bsky.social

I am 90% sure my career wouldn't have happened if a couple people hadn't retweeted one of my stories the exact minute they did. You work your hardest, but it's not in your hands. It breaks a lot of people.

Wanted to talk a second about another bit of creeping enshittification: power tools. Stay with me, it matters. Okay, so this past weekend we had a burnt-out thermostat on our water heater and I was already tapped paying some big bills this month. Full replacement was not in the cards.

GenAI (in all forms) wrecks the concept of signal vs noise, because it raises noise to the fidelity of signal but without the meaning/quality. So we either force ourselves to sift through it (with great effort) or quickly learn to ignore it all.

You don't even need a sketchbook, printer paper will do! I still use it ;) Then hole punch and 3 ring binder that together and boom you have a book of sketches. Format matters little in this case

Just got back from watching a story about a planet suffering from climate upheaval, and its people who let a computer run their society and think for them, becoming mentally atrophied and incapable of functioning on their own. God I hope we don't end up in the Spock's Brain timeline.

these people want US citizens to live in a bubble where they know nothing about the rest of the world. History is full of countries who proclaimed they had a divine favour, hell the US is literally celebrating the anniversary of their independence from a country with "god and my right" on its logo.

Has anyone ever built an internal combustion turntable? I feel like the overlap between music people and old car people is big enough that someone's got to have tried this even if it's probably entirely impractical, but sadly I can't find one on google.
