i am inviting anyone from a legacy media organization to explain to me why the house judiciary dems report on trump’s epstein’s ties and multiple allegations of rape isn’t worthy of extensively reporting on. i’m serious. i want to understand.

Some ground rules that have helped us: - Go outside your bubble, try new social media channels - Don’t underestimate the power of WhatsApp (although less so in the U.S.) - Post on the Instagram grid, not just stories - Watch every Instagram video until the end before sharing - IGNORE THEM

After the first round elections, Congressman André Janones created a WhatsApp channel titled “Lula’s Army.” It ballooned to 10 million people following his commands on how to behave online to counteract Meta’s far-right-favouring algorithms. The right knows how to use socials. We must learn, too.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Lula is to my left. Magyar is to my right. And I don’t care in the slightest, because they are the candidates of democracy against autocracy.

American conservatives are constantly bemoaning the decline of aesthetic standards and calling for a return to tailored suits and classical Roman architecture, but are now forced to defend the Cheesecake Factory. A constant tension between the Brooks Brothers patrician and the Kid Rock populist.

The long-serving strongman leader of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has conceded defeat in an election that pitted him and his right-wing party against a diverse student-led opposition movement that spent two years protesting his government.

Whether it's a Republican president insulting people's faith or nationality, or whether it's a Democratic president insulting people's preferred upscale suburban restaurant chain, both sides need to bring down the temperature.

Matthew Yglesias continues to say that talking about ICE and excessive force in immigration enforcement helps Republicans. He is obviously wrong about this and refuses to acknowledge the data. Way past time for everyone to update their priors on this.

Another evil layer to this ad from Josh Turek: When he turns to say "stop the nonsense from both extremes," he opens with a clip of Rep. Becca Balint, the first openly gay woman to represent Vermont in congress and one of the few openly gay members of congress.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

Props to the Hudson County Clerk for going above and beyond to make early voting available to Hudson County voters. Hudson-level access to IPEV sites should be the norm across NJ.

The one caveat here of course is that Stackistan gets special treatment: Bayonne: 2 sites Jersey City: 7 Hoboken: 2 Union City: 11 Weehawken: 1 West New York: 2 Guttenberg: 1 North Bergen: 2 Secaucus: 1 Kearny: 1 East Newark: 0 Harrison: 1

I think a lot of people really don't register the extent that there's hardly even a nominal left in Israeli politics any more. There's just a collection of various centre-to-far-right parties, some of which are pro-Netanyahu and some of which are anti-Netanyahu.

TIL that Baltimore has a non-contiguous TIF district, comprising 4,861 properties (at the moment) the increase in property value from rehabbed and sold properties in the TIF district indirectly funds rehabbing the other properties

Center city has so much potential as a place where people can live the urbanist dream because it has so many great places to live but our reliance on the suburbs for almost half (!!!) of city resident employment is a real problem

Some interesting observations here: Nashville and Austin both have job geographies that look more coastal than Sun Belt, suggesting investment in public transit there would be very successful. Chicago and Philly, despite strong downtowns, suffer from inner ring decay. Dallas is The Bad Place.

Great op-ed from Assemblyman Andrew McCurdy calling for accountability over the phantom years-late Multilevel III EMU order. Rumors are the cars are absolute lemons with major reliability issues, but NJT kept exercising billions in options before there was even a working prototype.

northjersey.comNJ Transit spent $2B on new railcars. So where are they? | OpinionWith purchases going back to 2018, NJ Transit has 374 train cars on order. Not a single one has entered into service. Commuters need an explanation.

The order was arguably always fated to fail. Instead of modifying an off-the-shelf European MU like Caltrain’s KISS or ordering a variant of a proven design like the Philly and Denver Silverliner V, NJT insisted on a vehicle backwards compatible with its existing Multilevel push-pull fleet.

The result? An overweight vehicle that crams all the propulsion equipment into a single car instead of spreading it out amongst a married pair or trainset. This engineering challenge reduced door count, increased axel load, and now with only a single prototype to show they are years late.

it is fascinating how the entire political media covers military support for Israel the exact opposite way that polling shows it plays, as if candidates who oppose it are the ideologues taking a risky stand and the Israel supporters are the commonsense moderates

Seriously this place is amazing. I know suburban grocery stores have already been like this for like 15 years but having something like this in the middle of downtown and connected to the light rail is amazing.
