It was a good weekend for the world because Lula won in Brazil. But also, I bought a new mechanical metrinome and I've never owned one before. It's my favorite music tool now. So, I celebrate with and for the world and the people of Brazil, just as I assume they celebrate with and for me.

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

My international followers, specially followers from the US, please get informed on the blatant election meddling attempts going on in Brazil - and be aware that they may be used in your voting district next! We're doing all we can over here to pull through no matter what. Witness us.

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

Got tired of listening to Smoltz. So now I'm playing Dvořák's New World Symphony over the game. It's a tremendous way to watch baseball.

The infernal dance starts, brining great drama to a routine long flyout. The slow motion of Sal Frelick saying "FUUUUUCK!" on his way back to the dugiut is very tense.

Big horns, percussion on a backbeat, Wells takes off with a massive leadoff... the music said something was going to happen. But it was a foul ball. Fucking baseball. Wells steals on the next play, and advances to 3rd on a sacrifice. Finally.

We go into the stretch at the end of the piece. Nothing is resolved. Game is tied. Timpanis thump. The strings climb. Everything feels uneasy.

Uribe walks Walls on 5 pitches before getting a mound visit from Contreras. He finds the zone on hid first pitch to Diaz. We're now at the climax of the piece. Things are tense.

Once Rite of Spring is done, we're going into my favorite—the Firebird Suite. Less tense and dissonant. But still good for closers.

Tyler Wells pitches to Miguel Contreras. Stravinsky is floating an eerie melody in the flutes above dissonant padding. Wells has about as east a time finding the zone as Stravinsky has finding a convincing root note

"The Sacrifice" started during a commercial break. Capitalism is a sacrifice. But it would have worked better if someone hit a sac fly during this tableau instead.

Sal Frelick hits a home run to tie it up just as Stravinsky gets on his polyrythmic bullshit (complimeantary). Bernie Brewer waving a towel while sliding down the slide takes on a cartoonishly evil demeanor.

I just realized that I managed to combine two of my most outwardly boring interests into a giant supersnore for most people. But you have to trust me—this is a tremendous combination.

Alright. Time to get weird with it. In keeping with the theme of Europeans who spent time in the U.S., we're doing Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. Igor feels like he might have liked the Rays. Their kooky, postmodern stadium seems fitting for him

Seeing as he wrote this in New York in from Spring to Fall of 1893, there is a remote possibility that this is, at least in some small part, about Baseball.

With that tag at the plate, it feels like Tony D switched allegiances to the Brewers. It makes more sense. He strikes me as an NL guy if I'm being honest.

Second movement (largo, laconic, whistful, melancholy) playing during a pitching change. Makes it feel like the manager is tearfully going behind the woodshed to humanely shoot the starting pitcher in the head like Old Yeller

This is heartwarming. And I'm glad Jason Alexander is alive. But a morbid, sick side of me wonders if the tipping point for Americans might have been headlines about the death of a beloved actor at the hands of the IDF

And that's how Busytown became racially segregated.

Couldn’t think of tim Burton’s name and said Richard Scarry instead. I think that works better. They should switch.

For a very clear comparison, emulating Magyar would be removing all the MAGA justices and judges from Federal Courts in the first 100 days. That is the scale of democratic chemotherapy we are discussing.

[Before turning on the game] I'm not sure who I'm rooting for. I'm kinda sick of the Phillies. [Turns on game and hears the chop] oh right. Go Phillies

Man, imagine you're minding your own business, getting kind of drunk with your friends at a picturesque brewery in Maine, when suddenly John Roberts walks by and you get to start heckling him. Must have felt incredible. That's the dream. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/u...

Teams should be owned by the various labor unions that make the games possible. (Players, concession workers, etc...)

BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO THINK 10 TIMES! THIS IS NOT FUCKING HARD! Fellas, just ask! Just ask if the next thing you want to do is okay! Have a conversation in advance with the people you want to be intimate with about boundaries and desires! AND LISTEN TO YOUR PARTNER DURING THE CONVERSATION!

To the people complaining these sex abuse cases have created a world where men now have to think 10 times before they touch a woman. Yes, that's the point. It's called consent. Welcome to human decency.

Watching J.P. and Randy come out early as departing free agents is hitting me in a way I didn't think anything this season could. #Mariners

AI: like a trillion bucks flushed down the toilet, everyone hates it, no actual utility, makes you dumb inhalants: cheap as fuck, people love 'em, makes you just as dumb but maybe you get a good story like "I huffed freon out of a garbage bag on top of the CVS"

Joe Flynn@chinajoeflynn.bsky.social

Who needs AI? This can be the stupid machine if you use it right.
