This is fucking insane that Congress is just sitting on their damn hands.

My defense-lawyer sister points out people *always* plead, even if they believe they're innocent, because they don't have the resources to fight the gov't. So for only half to plead out is itself a huge loss. For almost half to be tossed is astounding--"I've never seen anything like these numbers."

Yea this. I saw that chart and that was a huge qualifier I think should be clearly stated.

“Under the federal statute, felony charges can be brought against anyone who “forcibly assaults, resists, opposes, impedes, intimidates or interferes” with a federal law enforcement officer.” The emperor has no clothes.

After a months-long occupation, Minnesota is still recovering from a retribution campaign waged by the federal government. Now, Minnesota stands with Houston in demanding accountability for the fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. This bloodshed cannot be normalized.

there is a cohort of men who resent the responsibilities and obligations of adulthood — of the fact that you owe things to other people. it is a fundamentally childish impulse that they have reconfigured as the height of masculinity, and i think it informs the parasocial attraction to platner.

37% of new heavy trucks sold in China: now fully electric. Not delivery vans — 49-tonne heavy-duty rigs. This one swapped ~550 kWh in just 5 mins. Competitive, proven & inevitable. China's heavy EV truck sales surged 182% YoY in 2025, rising from single digits just two years ago.

Man O’ Man, and to think how many executives and Republicans here, tied to the oil or gas and diesel based economies will burn our atmosphere into our deaths before we cede the ground to the future. Tesla’s sure isn’t anything close to this…nor will one company foot the bill for this infrastructure.

obviously not the first person to make this observation but the "move along, citizen" shit for regular DC residents is especially galling in context of the pardons for the rioters who broke into the fucking capitol

NEW — The sentencing of the Prairieland demonstrators shows the brutality of Trump's war on dissent, but it's not without precedent, @kimkelly.bsky.social writes. History shows us the government has always punished anti-fascism. But this time we can change the narrative in real time. Read here:

Periodic reminder that Teapot Dome, the worst scandal in American history prior to Watergate, involved $9 million changing hands. That’s adjusted for inflation. This story by itself is 55500% bigger than Teapot Dome. That’s not a typo.

crazy that under the precedent set by callais, a lily-white congressional delegation formed by "partisan" gerrymandering in a plurality black state passes constitutional muster, while any majority-minority district is constitutionally suspect

I’m not sure why this isn’t being mentioned more, but: IRS policy for 50 years has been that the sitting president & VP get audited every year, in an effort to reassure the public they’re not corruptly abusing the office to enrich themselves.

There is no clearer case for the necessity of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 than how quickly southern states moved to eliminate Black-majority districts and dilute Black power after SCOTUS eroded Section 2. SCOTUS’s reasoning was immediately disproven by reality.

So many people urge us to vote if we are dissatisfied with our democracy. And yes voting matters. But as today’s Supreme Court ruling tells us, it’s not that simple. Not everyone who should have the right to vote can exercise that right.

Democrats need to realize ICE isn’t just—or even primarily—a mass deportation force. ICE is also Trump’s most loyal internal security force which will be used to attack regime opponents and try to steal the election. They should defund his authoritarian capabilities.

I would have a lot more respect for the “unitary executive” theory of the Constitution if just one of its advocates argued for it when a President they didn’t like was in power.

worth saying that some portion of the freed slaves were themselves illegal aliens having been brought illegally into the united states by smugglers. if the birthright clause applies to them, it applies to undocumented immigrants

Here is the question presented. It's a relatively clean vehicle for the Supreme Court to finally decide whether it is lawful for the president to deny birthright citizenship to the children of immigrants. www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/25...

I can't stop thinking about the purported drug smugglers being murdered by the US military. The punishment for drug offenses isn't the death penalty. This is just bloodlust and men in suits playing with lives they don't care about. It's truly grotesque and gravely compromises this country.
