me realizing that the devs of Outer Wilds will never be able to play Outer Wilds for the first time

(yeah technically they played it for the Actual First Time but, yknow what I mean)

As a follow-up to my initial code actions PR, I'm working on an additional PR that lets you instantly create a function stub for a signal connection! (The children cheering sound effect also plays automatically whenever you run a code action now. Sorry it's not optional) #gamedev #indiedev #godot

33 years ago today, the Stranger stepped onto the dock of Myst Island for the first time. We can still hear the water splashing against the pilings.

Escape from Ever After is the Paper Mario game that Nintendo would have made if they weren't a bunch of COWARDS

OpenAI’s top scientist, in a blog post on Sunday, warns that artificial intelligence is evolving so rapidly that it is becoming increasingly difficult for humans to understand and control it. Here is the post: openai.com/index/an-ali... And a couple of small excerpts--clear warnings.

oh you use Claude? well I have a "claude" of braincells in my head that I use to do my thinkin'

there's a pretty simple connection here 1. humans become good at what they practice doing 2. outsourcing to an AI or even other people, means you have stopped doing the thing 3. if you stop doing the thing, you will stop improving, and, long term, get worse at it (cont.)

i really think genai causes actual brain damage. probably faster than most ways you can on purpose give yourself brain damage. and if you hear this statement as literally as i mean it i think it sounds sorta conspiracy nut, but undeniably less conspiracy nut than the apparent sum of its parts

Why is 🙂 "slightly smiling face" and 😄 is "smile"? It feels like 🙂 should be "smile" and 😄 should be like "very smiling face". In this paper, we contribute the following to the literature:

July 22 1694: perhaps the limit of the divided derivatives will give me the limit of of the indeterminate form. July 1694: l'hôpital

I, for one, welcome the ketchup slices. Not because I *want* to use sliced ketchup, but because we really need more silly things like this to feel passionate about instead of how everywhere is on fire and everything is terrible and everyone is going to die

Nintendo shower thought: New Super Mario Bros. U is more of a Super Mario Odyssey than Super Mario Odyssey is

I started trying to compile the full transcripts of The Good Place for a Bluesky bot, but the source I got them from was (badly) TikTok-censored. "Cocktail" and "cockroach" are both words that show up frequently in the show, but the censoring method did not work well for them... 😭💀

happy There Will Come Soft Rains day (reformed) to all who celebrate

Eric Williams@geoliminal.bsky.social

the first time THERE WILL COME SOFT RAINS was published, in the May 6th 1950 issue of Collier's, the date the robo-house says is "April 28, 1985"

Someone should make a video game about this. You could, uh, collect... strawberries, or something. I dunno

I'm really loving Typst but am afraid that as soon as I get back into doing collaborative work for grad school stuff I'm gonna be forced back into LaTeX/Overleaf 😭

cool to be running a @discord.com server with 10,000 people that someone brigades in order to mass report, getting the the accounts of mods and the only admin (me) disabled for a joke I made 6 years ago noticed I couldn't send DMs to my clients anymore for my current freelance work so, cool, thanks

I see some concerns raised about Godot's policy on contributions using AI. TL;DR: Godot isn't vibe-coded. As a whole, the Godot foundation and maintainers are fairly critical of AI usage, and don't make nor accept vibe-coded contributions. Godot doesn't include AI features nor intends to add any.

In Paper Mario: Color Splash, a Shy Guy is trapped in a water wheel after being bullied. The internal name for this pose is "crucify". This suggests that the original intent may have been for him to actually evoke a crucifixion before it was decided this may be in bad taste.

What I'm taking from this is how vague and meaningless these genAI disclosures are allowed to be. You really have no idea what they used it for. Could be textures, could be concept art, could be they just used a transcription tool for meetings. The vagueness sucks.
