I didn’t know or follow Kathy but I remember all the blogs galvanizing around her in the wake of that harassment. It’s so sad that nearly two decades later, the harassment Kathy faced wouldn’t even register to most today. We just write it off as a cost of being online under your real name/face.
Long before Gamergate, tech author Kathy Sierra was harassed off the web and social media for calling out harassment. My reporting partner Greg Sandoval & I wrote about her story for The Verge in 2013, and Kathy did an even better job telling her own story a year later www.wired.com/2014/10/trol...

Good news. A transgender Kansas Woman has successfully... for now... gotten her drivers license back after suing the state. It could open the door for other trans Kansans to get their drivers licenses back as well. The latest from our journalist S. Baum. www.erininthemorning.com/p/kansas-wom...

Squishiness on trans rights is a dealbreaker for me because (a) it’s a straightforward issue of personal freedom and bodily autonomy much like abortion, and (b) the right is obviously coming after us cis gays next.
trans rights frankly is a top 5, potentially top 3 issue for me despite not being trans and not having any trans family being bigoted against trans folks not only hurts my trans friends and every trans person but is so predictive of further bigotry

This week someone targeted my family for harm with a false report. We’re physically OK, but that doesn’t mean we weren’t harmed. I am beyond furious. Whatever your politics, this is awful, wrong, and can never become normal.

In Kansas, a judge looked at the medical evidence on gender-affirming care and found the evidence simply does not support the state ban on these treatments. Don't believe the propaganda. Youth trans care is not a particularly tricky or nuanced medical question. assignedmedia.org/breaking-new...

1. In a draconian new policy, Texas Tech is banning writing about LGBTQ+ topics. The ban is the first don't say gay or trans policy to apply to students themselves. It applies to any thesis/dissertation moving forward. They are using AI to scan everything. Subscribe to support our journalism.

The ancient scrolls tell us that, in the Before Time, a president's admission that his administration had not considered the obvious likelihood of the war widening when they first attacked Iran would lead to immediate congressional hearings.
Trump: "All of the sudden the war starts, and they start shooting at Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Oman. Everybody was shocked, including us."

Media Matters analyzed a year of NYT coverage of anti-trans bills and found that 66% of the time the paper didn't quote a trans person. Further, it found that the paper often quoted right wing sources without mentioning their histories of anti-trans rhetoric. So "right-wing rag" is pretty accurate.

This is performative hateful cruelty for the sake of cruelty. What is wrong with people that they feel the need to attack people just for being. No I'm not asking for an answer. It's a rhetorical question. I'm just venting at how disgusting this is.
It seems all Kansas-issued trans drivers' licenses are invalid, effective tomorrow It is now illegal for trans people to drive a car until they surrender their license at a DMV (that most will need to drive to) and have it reissued with the wrong gender marker This was never about woman's sports

To do this, anti-trans lawmakers in Kansas moved fast to change the law, overrode the governor’s veto, and pushed for the legal changes to go into effect nearly immediately. That kind of power—to void gender on official documents, to compel gender conformity—is terrifying and it will not stop here.
1. Numerous transgender people in Kansas are reporting that the state has sent them a letter demanding the immediate surrender of drivers licenses. Those driving could be arrested, charged, and see privileges revoked. Subscribe to support our journalism. www.erininthemorning.com/p/kansas-sen...

democrats should internalize that this is what their colleagues think of them and act accordingly
After pointing at Democrats and saying they are "crazy," Trump says, "We’re lucky we have a country, with people like this. Democrats are destroying our country, but we stopped it, just in the nick of time." Just insanely destructive. Indefensible — but Republicans stood and clapped.

This is why "Let's give in on some of the trans stuff because it'd be a popular compromise and you have to meet people where they are" is not only immoral but politically stupid. Republicans were never going to stop there. They stop when you stop them. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/18/u...
