Dallas Brodie getting fucking annihilated is one small silver lining

Jen St. Denis@jenstden.bsky.social

I've reported a lot on OneBC and Dallas Brodie, the party that did its best to promote residential school denialism and attack Indigenous rights in this province. Tonight she lost her riding of Vancouver-Quilchena about as hard as you can lose.

I am so sick and tired of “affordability” being part of mobility conversations when it comes to drivers. Transit is LITERALLY the most affordable way to get around. Transit riders deserve better.

It just so happens that Brenda Locke is also a horrible politician

Mary Gillis@marygillis.bsky.social

This is a symptom of a much bigger problem in Canada: most of our politicians have decided that politics is real, and physical reality is not. You can see this at every level, as politicians ignore climate change, ignore proven solutions to poverty and overdose deaths. All to focus on politics.

Distraction is the second leading cause of fatal crashes in our region and province. We hope that all candidates take that seriously, especially those from a party campaigning on public safety. (Video from ABC School Board Candidate Lina Vargas on Instagram)

One big worry I have about a BC Cons win is that they will eff up transit, but Eby's plan to eff up transit addresses that.

Justin McElroy 🇨🇦@jmcelroy.bsky.social

Asked Eby about this, and he said they have “shut the door” on a vehicle levy because of affordability concerns, and told TransLink as such. That will come as news to some mayors and folks in TransLink, but there’s another 15 months before the current funding arrangement ends.

This is probably the straw that broke the camel's back for me. After a long list of broken 2024 election promises for transit, and now publicly announcing an intention to let TransLink fiscal cliff (at this point the onus is on the NDP to prove otherwise), I can't bring myself to vote NDP again.

Elections have a way of clarifying who matters to political parties (car owners) and whose priorities can wait for another day (transit advocates). My dispatch from Day 1 on David Eby’s four day mid-election road trip. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Beaks off about public engagement but when the public wants to engage, they won't. Say one thing, do another! That should be their slogan.

What a pathetic showing by the BC NDP, caving to the vehicle levy news faster than you can say LNG. This election is a race to the bottom and we still have 22 days to go.

In response to David Eby lowering the province-wide gas tax by 10¢, TransLink should, in response, raise their separate fuel levy by 10¢ to make up the difference 😌 Purely by coincidence, the TL board is meeting right now.

He nods at "the existential challenge of climate change." While announcing a brand new oil pipeline.

Aside from the B.C. Greens, one of the key fights in this election is who can LNG the hardest

There will be TWO elections this October, and we hope transit riders vote in both of them! It can be confusing to figure out which level of government is responsible for what (especially when candidates make promises they can’t follow through on).

It’s always sad to say goodbye to baseball season. There’s nothing finer than 162, starting when the world is blooming and winding down as that chill sets in. Winter is coming and I’ll make the best of it, but I’m already looking forward to spring ⚾️

This horrible season aside, I’m trying to remind myself that when it’s the dead of winter, I’ll be wishing I was here more than anywhere else.

With the autumnal equinox behind us, we're officially in the 13 months of the year where riding a bike is impossible and unfathomable. Congratulations, bike friends, we've made it yet again.
