Anyone who knows me knows how much I care about marching band. I've been involved in it in some form since 2009 and will be for the rest of my life. I wrote for @butwhytho.net about how EA can rightfully honor how much bands mean to college football: butwhytho.net/2026/07/ea-s...

butwhytho.netDear EA Sports, The Next College Football Should Honor The History of the Saturday SoundsEA Sports College Football 27 improved on marching bands, but it's still missing the history that built that iconic Saturday Sound.

genuinely curious, do we not consider Returnal to be a mom game?

I talk to students/hopefuls/juniors a lot, and while I'd personally argue that "don't" (no matter how well-meaning that advice may be) isn't actually helpful, we owe it to prospective writers to be honest about the dire straits of the industry rn, and the reality is no paid course can get you a job.

If the advice you’re giving people who say they want to get into narrative design/game writing isn’t either “you need to be satisfied just making your own shit because there are no jobs” or “don’t” you are a scam artist

I know I need to accept that Dragon Age may never come back but what if Pokopia except it’s Thedas with DA characters? imagine making little houses for all your companions!! and an inescapable dungeon for Anders

I went on a vacation and my health insurance company decided to stop covering higher-level mental health care because ~~apparently~~ if I’m going on vacation I must not need mental health support!!!

One of the more misogynistic takes currently trending in the AI policy space is "women use less AI than men because they have less tech literacy" Ok but have you considered that women use less AI than men because we have more tech literacy?

what chill music YouTube channels do you know of that don’t use AI in images or sound? I know about Blue Turtle and of course Lofi Gifl but I’m looking for others!

I see Titanium Court reviews are out today, and honestly if you're already interested enough to pick the game up I'd say.. Do not read them. Many extensively lay out elements that I think are way more enjoyable to discover on their own. The surprise is part of the experience

I don’t “network,” I make friends. Other artists are not my competition, they’re my beloved peers and sources of inspiration. We all have the same goal; to share our art. I’m not gonna corporatize my human relationships with them. I am in my sandbox playing and I hope they join me.

games industry events should adopt a frat house entrance policy - you have to have at least one woman in your group to get in. if you don’t have a female friend in the games industry who would go to an event with you, maybe you should do some introspection.

this is a joke and also when women find me at events, they always say the same thing: “i can’t believe how many men are here, i was so worried i wouldn’t find another woman.”

this is also SO common in game dev spaces (i mean, duh). i go to game dev event, a man is excited to tell me all about the game idea he has, his opinions on every game he’s played, his thoughts on the industry. no interest in forming a reciprocal connection with me.

In a writer networking workshop I run, I ask attendees to think about the coolest person they want to meet. Then I ask what they’d offer them as a peer (this could be anything!). If there’s no answer, it isn’t time to network in that room. …a specific type of attendee rarely has an answer.

i largely stopped going to game dev events this past year mostly because it makes me sad as someone who can’t get a job in the industry but also because i just am so tired of having these kinds of conversations with men.

We did something different with the credits for Demonschool. We used this format: name, title, lengthy description of what they did. Often you see credits in games where you don't know what the credited developer was actually responsible for. We wanted to give people proper, actual credit.

if you ask games industry people what games they’re playing they’ll be like “oh Hades 2 and this match-3 mobile game with a million ads and microtransactions. yeah i have about 60 hours in each”

I’m quoted in this as are some of my favorite people in the industry. the games industry is just so demoralizing right now
