Equal pay for equal work. Why does the Labour party not believe in this?

Zack Polanski@zackpolanski.bsky.social

Labour now briefing young people won't get the same minimum wage uplift. Even Starmer didn't break this pledge. Workers rights mean same rights, pay & conditions, same rate for the same job. What does this Labour government have against young people? inews.co.uk/news/politic...

People getting mad at Labour forget that the literal point is not to actually do anything, because they strongly believe in an ideology that says the government shouldn't do anything. They know they can't say "we don't want to do anything" so they have to dream up this shite instead.

Saul Staniforth@saulstaniforth.bsky.social

Jon Kay to Jonathan Reynolds: "You're planning to remove import taxes from products like chocolate, gherkins, marmalade. Your own figures say that will save the average household 40p a week. At a time when [bills] are going up, do you really think people are going to notice 40p a week?"

If the British public are the bosses, how come the UK government won't say Israel is committing a genocide?

Based on what, you Chucky doll faced fuck? The full bore screaming consent manufacturing for war currently being undertaken by the political class is so nakedly blatant. You idiots can't even make hospitals or trains work properly, why would someone need to go to the effort of invading?

"Defence secretary Wes Streeting warned that Britain must be prepared for war within the next 1,000 days, urging citizens to stockpile water, food and emergency supplies as geopolitical tensions rise, particularly with Russia." www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home...

The lunatics are doing nothing in government to address the multitude of issues facing the UK other than demonising immigration and trying to cut benefits to fund arms manufacturing. Fix a single fucking problem we are dealing with in this stupid country, then I'll listen to you.

Consecutive UK governments have stripped everything out of the walls of the UK. There's nothing left, the country is on its ass and can't respond to anything. In reaction to this, Labour have decided to try to make the complete failure of the state the responsibility of the individual.

I think we're coming into contact with the reality of what happens when you shithouse the moron mayor of Manchester into the top job without any democratic oversight. You end up with a cretin telling you to drink wine though an emergency.

Yes, sure, the population should be prepared for the realities and risks we face, but if the state has absolved itself of any responsibility of holding up their side of the bargain for the last 40 years, me filling my small flat with bottled water and bog roll is going to have limited utility.

Chancellor to pitch budget at wealth creators – UK politics live

theguardian.comChancellor to pitch budget at wealth creators – UK politics liveJohn Healey is expected to cut red tape requirements, particularly for smaller businesses Good morning. A week today John Healey, the chancellor, will be doing a media round defending the budget he is presenting on Wednesday next week. Ahead of that, he has given an interview to Patrick Maguire from the Times. As you would expect, there is no real detail in it about the measures he will be presenting to MPs. But the big picture message is very clear – and quite surprising, coming from a chancellor serving a PM who in some respects is steering left compared to his predecessor. Healey says that he wants to be on the side of bloody-minded entrepreneurs who make a profit, he acknowledges that government has made their life harder over the past two years, and he suggests that cutting the ‘cost of living’ for business is just as important as cutting the real cost of living for families. In the quote that gives the Times its splash headline, Healey says: I want to be a chancellor who backs business in Britain making a profit, and those entrepreneurs who, in the end, are the ones who challenge the status quo, come up with innovative ideas and are trying, some of them through sheer bloody-mindedness, to keep going through these sorts of pressures … If you’re not making a profit, you’ve got nothing to put back into the business. And for the people who start up these businesses, the ones who really thrive and grow, they have to make a profit — and they will be much more inclined to put it back into their own business. But we want it to grow here and stay here. If you talk to any of the businesses that have come in and have either had one-to-ones or round tables with me, I have recognised that in recent times there’s been a lot of pressure: employment law, regulation, tax, input costs, supply chains. And so when I talk about the cost of business, and recognising that in the same way as we’re recognising the cost of living pressures, I’m conscious of that as I go into the budget for both businesses and households. [Healey] is expected to use the budget to make significant cuts to regulation on businesses that one senior Treasury source described as “the sludge choking firms”. Reporting requirements are likely to be abolished for many smaller enterprises, The Times understands. Continue reading...

It is the entitlement that figures such as Lucas embody that's particularly infuriating. "Yes, I have repeatedly shat the bed and sabotaged my own party, but keep listening to me, I'm very important." Unbelievable.

What they mean by this is simple: this is how it's going to be, they know it's bullshit but they don't have to justify themselves to you, the pig people.

Saul Staniforth@saulstaniforth.bsky.social

On going ahead with Jackdaw "@zackpolanski.bsky.social.. says this is a betrayal of all of our futures.. do you really think this is the right thing to do?" Miatta Fahnbulleh: "Well look I do.. we have seen that climate change is here.. heat waves, wild fires, drought.. its a pragmatic decision"

Very interesting watching Labour supporters who were complaining that "the greens don't talk about the environment any more" suddenly become very defensive of Shell and climate damaging policy today. Odd that.

Yes babe, give us nothing, we are mere hogs unworthy of such an awesome Labour government.

You know those ‘spot the difference’ puzzles? I’m thinking of launching a ‘spot every racism in this political cartoon’ alternative….

If you have to disengage with reality and lie on national television to find something positive to say about your political project, I think you may have fucked said project.

Phillipson says the difference between Labour & the Greens is Lab deliver. And you know what policy she cites? Scrapping the two child benefit cap. Something they suspended seven Lab MPs for voting for, refused to do for almost 2yrs & had to be dragged kicking & screaming to do

I've particularly enjoyed the "what about human rights?" angle, which is an absolutely fascinating moment for certain people to suddenly start caring about them.

See a lot of "By pointing out Zionism is Racism the Greens will alienate Jewish Zionists who could've been won over with a kinder approach" takes. And I have to ask, how has treating bigots with kid gloves and respecting their ~legitimate concerns~ worked out over the past decade?

I always find "PM calls for x" funny. You're the PM mate. Don't call for it, do it. Unless of course, calling for it is really all you want to be doing.

Saul Staniforth@saulstaniforth.bsky.social

"Burnham.. is calling for greater control over water.. energy" Control not ownership "Hes also calling for electoral reform" After the next election "Hes calling for a tougher stance on Israel" He's not ending arms exports, isn't deproscribing PA, refuses to call it genocide

I hear Dunt is being a massive deliberately gullible cretin again is it? Shocking.

There's nobody who knows as little about anything as Ian Dunt. This is the dude who baked his own noodle when he googled "neolibralism" and then went on his podcast to talk about how it was actually real and not just an insult leftist used.

Neoliberalism is absolutely incredible.

The security services remain tight-lipped about possible motives. Russian sabotage, Islamist extremism and direct action from anti-war protesters were not ruled out. But, given the context, Iran would be an obvious suspect

metro.co.ukReform UK hires patrol to monitor ‘asylum seeker’ areasThe patrols will be in Braintree, Colchester and Chelmsford (Picture: Daily Mail) A Reform UK council has deployed private security guards to town centres where concerns have reportedly been raised over ‘gatherings of male migrants’ from a nearby accommodation centre. Essex County Council said that six operatives will patrol Braintree, Colchester and Chelmsford town centres from Monday for an initial three-month trial period. The initiative, titled Operation Vanguard, is funded through a drawdown of up to £150,000 from a community improvement fund, the party said, with the three-month trial expected to cost about £118,000 plus VAT. It has been criticised by local politicians, including Labour county councillor Lee Scordis. He told the Press Association: ‘The council’s own report and the police tell us there is no evidence of any rise in crime from asylum seekers in Colchester. ‘This decision is clearly driven by prejudice. We have no answers about what they will do, the powers they will have and even if the council has consulted the police on this.’ A council report titled Launch of Operation Vanguard says the Home Office says ‘there is no evidence of Wethersfield AAA (Airfield Asylum Accommodation) having an impact on crime levels’. The initiative was announced in August after the Government informed Braintree District Council that it plans to expand the use of nearby former RAF airbase Wethersfield, which houses asylum seekers, some of whom travel to surrounding areas by bus. The Home Office said it would increase the site’s capacity from 800 to 1,245, and will remain operational beyond 2027. According to Reform UK, the initiative came as a ‘direct response to concerns raised amongst local residents, particularly women and girls, over gatherings of male migrants in town centres’. Reform UK leader of Essex County Council, Peter Harris, said: ‘Today, Operation Vanguard moves from words to action. Six trained security guards, two each in Braintree, Chelmsford and Colchester, will provide a visible and reassuring presence on our streets, particularly for women and children. ‘Our message is simple: the safety of Essex residents comes first.’ The security guards will work between 10am and 6pm, seven days a week, to ‘deter anti-social behaviour’. While security guards will work primarily in the areas where the migrants are dropped off, they will assist with other security issues if it becomes necessary, a spokesperson said. A Home Office spokesperson said: ‘Public safety remains our first priority and we expect any criminality to be taken seriously. We work with local police to ensure the safety and security of local communities around the site, the staff who work there and those accommodated. ‘The concerns of communities are central to our immigration reforms. We are working to fairly house asylum seekers across the country, close every asylum hotel and move asylum seekers into alternative accommodation including former military sites.’ Comment now Comments Add Metro as a Preferred Source on Google Add as preferred source
