“Starman” by David Bowie, with my birthday money in July 1972. Mum and Da had just bought me my own little record player.

Mark Thompson@markreckons.bsky.social

First single you bought with your own money. No lying! Mine: "Red Box - Lean on Me (Ah-Li-Ayo)", 1985. Still know every word.

I got three singles for that birthday along with the record player. “Metal Guru” T-Rex, “Little Willy” Sweet, and erm…”Circles” by The New Seekers.

Okay, I am back after two weeks off grid and am now energised and ready to DO SOME WORK. To cut a long story short: 1) I will be at Labour conference next week for coffee/beer 2) I am open to new projects

think what's interesting about this too is that I have no sense of how others feel about this - we're clearly in a minority on this website by being stridently anti-AI, but does that really mean other people don't.....meaningfully care about the phenomenon below? I find that so weird to contemplate!

bossk baby@bonnnt.bsky.social

It is so mentally corrosive to try to ascertain, every day, whether the images I am seeing or the texts I am getting or the phone calls I am receiving are real - produced by a human who is trying to communicate something with me, even indirectly. It makes me feel insane and paranoid all the time

good god, we're closing in on £50k.. I hope y'all know how insane this is; widdershins has no publisher, and I didn't manage to get very much press covering this, so like... this is all you guys spreading the word. thank you so much

It’s time, it’s finally time..! Come and celebrate the final book of the long-running webcomic, Widdershins, with its final Kickstarter! Victorian-era wizardry awaits in a series of fast-paced, goofy stories, brimming with heart and adventure! www.kickstarter.com/projects/kat... #comics #webcomics

Comics people often insist that you should avoid having two characters simply sitting and talking. Here are two pages from a recent installment of Brink. Two characters sitting talking. Its utterly engrossing.

One of today's political prisoners. Cartoonist & zine maker Daniel Rolando Sanchez Estrada wasn't even at the ICE protest. He was accused of "moving" a box of anti-Trump zines THE NEXT DAY. A rightwing judge sentenced him to 30 years! Just for possessing zines. The darkness is descending.

Ryan Estrada@ryanestrada.com

A cartoonist named Daniel "Des" Rolando Sanchez Estrada was tried as a terrorist and sentenced to 30 years in prison for having anti-Trump comics in his car. Prosecutors connected him to a 2025 anti-ICE protest he didn't even attend because he was in the same book club as others who were.

"We're shipping so much more code with AI!" "Good, stable code?" "Oh heavens no. No no no. not at all. We couldn't possibly"

Sue Smith@suesmith.lol

"The AI engineering impact data shows that output is up. It also shows that the work required to ensure that output is safe, correct, and maintainable has not decreased. It has increased substantially." Aye, if only any of us had been saying this from day one 🤡 www.faros.ai/blog/ai-acce...

'Accept cookies/confirm choices'. If you don't offer a 'reject/decline all' option from the outset, I'm not going through pages & pages of your 300 vendors selecting & deselecting as appropriate. Nor am I just going to agree to all out of resigned apathy. I simply don't use your site/app. Fuck off.

If we really wish to prevent a Reform government it is much more important that Labour changes the voting system than replaces one wooden leader with another. At the bare minimum give us single transferable vote. yorkshirebylines.co.uk/politics/in-...

What if they opened their mouths and killer wasps came out but also the wasps were robots and the robots had nuclear bombs in them? What then?

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

Vance suggests Iran could have used nuclear suicide vests: “People who walk into a crowded supermarket and…blow up the vest and a couple of people get killed, that's a terrible tragedy. What happens when what's on the vest…can kill many, many tens of thousands of people?”

Can't help thinking that this photo of Gorton & Denton Reform candidate Matt Goodwin with Steve Bannon - convicted fraudster, close friend & enabler of Jeffrey Epstein, promoter of violence to overturn a US election & admirer of Satan - has not had the coverage it deserves.

A fun question. In 5 years time, what looks better? The US’s enormous bet & capex on AI? Or China’s equally enormous bet and capex on renewables?
