In America you drop your kid off at school, get your brains blown out on the ride home, then the Vice President drops everything for a week to call you a terrorist, to slander your family, to protect the circumstances that led to your death so they can do it again. It is government by Alex Jones.

So fmr Honduran President Hernandez voluntarily surrendered, and was duly extradited, tried and convicted for drug trafficking, and Trump pardoned him 6w ago. And this morning, Trump illegally attacks Venezuela and abducts its president and his wife purportedly to try them for drug trafficking.

When Kavanaugh writes his solo opinion saying the VRA was great then but unnecessary now, just remember on the day the case was argued: - ICE detained citizens based on skin color - Gorsuch’s former clerk called the Minority Leader “Soros’ house slave” - American Nazi flag in congressional office

The idea that the Court may use the Reconstruction Amendments to the Constitution to bar a remedy that helps minority voters is both ahistorical and repugnant.

I mean yes this is funny, but the fact that these unconstitutional stormtroopers are so directionless that they literally stand around waiting for random nonwhite delivery guys to bike past them is just pathetic. No mandate, no mission, no clue. Just racism.

Bove himself is a literal criminal. A man whose short time in the public eye is defined by his open contempt for the law and those responsible for enforcing it. And the only reason he was nominated is because of his slavish devotion to the president’s most lawless impulses.

Emil Bove's confirmation was only possible because Democrats caved to a vile right-wing smear campaign of Adeel Mangi, who would have been the first Muslim appeals court judge, when Biden nominated him for the same seat last year. Absolutely disgraceful. Bove's confirmation is on them, too.

As Roberts privately praised Trump's "civility," a massive spike in threats hit the federal judiciary. The threats were fueled by Trump's rhetoric calling them "USA HATING JUDGES", "MONSTERS", and "sick." Roberts got a handshake at the SOTU; the judges depending on his leadership got death threats.

The Supreme Court derives its power from its legitimacy. It earns its legitimacy by explaining its decisions. The endless stream of wholly unexplained orders in favor of the Trump administration is not just indefensible—it's a threat to the court's own long-term power. This reeks of illegitimacy.

Steve Vladeck@stevevladeck.bsky.social

Since April 4, #SCOTUS has issued 15 rulings on 17 emergency applications filed by Trump (three birthright citizenship apps were consolidated). It has granted relief to Trump ... in all 15 rulings. It has written majority opinions in only 3. Today's order is the 7th with no explanation *at all.*

You think that vast armed force is going to be used just for immigration? I doubt it. Watch for ICE duties to expand duties and for ICE to follow the pattern of militarization of police. Also watch it used as secret police against anything anti-ICE.

If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029: - $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion - $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million - $8 billion for hiring/retention - Billions more.
