I should have mentioned that my office is Minneapolis Elections & Voter Services. The Mayor's budget eliminates seven staff members less than two weeks before an anxiety-inducing midterm. No more high school election judge program. No more voter outreach.

When the mayor's proposed budget eliminates half our office, we fortify ourselves with baked goods. Yesterday it was pastries from Dahlia. Today our colleague baked for us.

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

There are a lot of decent people doing good work right now, and hope is breaking through. As a result, our enemies are thrashing about and lashing out in extremely dangerous ways. We must be alert and aware and resist overwhelm and panic. Where can you contribute?

Elena reposted

Some of the escalations we're seeing, including the attack on Ilhan Omar's home (I will not pretend this act was "investigatory"), are desperate acts. But we must remember that desperate people can be very dangerous. A domestic abuse victim, for example, is in the most danger when trying to leave.

Elena reposted

There are half a dozen punks independently building gundams out of bike parts somewhere in South Minneapolis right now and Ilhan is going to need a whole Battle Train to hold them all

This raid is an abuse of power. The use of federal law enforcement against a sitting member of Congress on the eve of an election is unprecedented and unacceptable.🧵

The Attorney General race is a REALLY critical one in MN this fall. We need Keith back in office to keep protecting Minnesotan's rights around healthcare and free speech, support our trans and immigrant neighbors, and keep suing the Trump administration!

🚨New AD🚨 When Trump tried to take over our streets with armed, masked ICE agents, he found out what Minnesotans were made of.

Turns out treating our schools as community hubs has ENORMOUS benefits during crisis. Seems relevant to current MPS debates.

A preview of research from law professor and former UN Special Rapporteur, who said she was initially unsure if could apply international standards of *crimes against humanity* onto what happened in MN this winter. And came away from the research absolutely certain that it was.

Which, I mean, yes. We lived that. We witnessed it. But still, the validation of that label is powerful. The confirmation of the pervasiveness of the “systematicity” of the attack and messaging. So important

I got here a bit late (third flat tire this summer, construction crews are not doing cleanup well 🫠), walking into the middle of research on trust. Phew. a loaded word! The highlights about the layers of trust (emotional, relational, technological, informational) and views of how we build trust

Reflection—how do I naturally build trust? Does it have to be earned? Or given until a reason not to trust? How does that change in different contexts? When do we have to lean into discomfort of the non-natural way of trusting others? How does we carry forward—“trust in our invisible neighbors”

Seems unlikely but natl polls converging on Senate race. SUSA has it tied. Bottom line: go doorknock or phone call. It’s past go time & I expect GOP natl billionaires to turn their money cannon here, unless they think they can win by staying away. Tafoya camp has kept her under wraps & it’s working.

Is 46% approval realistic for Minnesota? I don't think so, but I could be wrong. For reference NYT has him at 38% nationally.

Great to see my friend Hunter on this list. 🌈 Minnesota’s House is a 67-67 tie, our Senate 34-33. We have our work to do; especially in the suburb/exurbs to make sure voters are showing up for folks who will move our state forward.

we tracked months of rent payments to an estimated 13,000 families. the expected cost of rehousing those families, had they entered eviction, would be north of $218 million dollars. keeping them housed cost around $38-40 million

Don’t read Frazier's 35.95% as a sign that Hennepin voters don’t want a progressive attorney. The data says the opposite. To start: Frazier finished first in 227 of 394 precincts. Folk: 1st in 74, 2nd in 115, and 3rd-5th in 206 (more than half the precincts in Hennepin County).

just another reminder that if you don’t like the idea of amy klobuchar as governor of Minnesota, your best course of action is to head to a swing house or senate district and get on the doors help get those caucuses so strong that Amy’s power as governor means less

Today, the federal government has issued a final rule on one of their proposals to limit gender affirming care for youth; the rule which prohibits Medicaid reimbursements will go into effect October 13th. It's a bad rule, but it's less catastrophic than its companion rule. And it will be challenged.

Elena reposted

Replying to @rohnkat.bsky.social

For Minnesotans: 1. This rule is limited to federal reimbursement for medical gender care for youth under Medicaid - it does not change the legality of those services. 2. Gender affirming care remains legal in our state, and Minnesota *must* continue to reimburse and provide care under our laws.

If somebody’s trying to tell you some other app is a more secure alternative to Signal, they are ignorant, malicious, or trying to sell you something and you should not take them seriously. Every other app is going to have the same human problems and worse security. Ask every reputable cryptographer

There is complete industry consensus on this. Every reputable cryptographer on the planet agrees: Signal’s cryptographic protocols are the most secure in class. Period. Just because your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate told you otherwise doesn’t make it true
