He/Him, if anyone needs to know. Bit of a renaissance man in terms of interests including transportation, science fiction, games, history, and maps. Heterosexual, but leave the -isms and -phobias behind.
This is especially important: “We call upon our fellow institutions of higher education in the United States to declare their willingness to facilitate the immediate co-enrollment of Harvard’s international students, including formal acceptance of transfer for immigration purposes.”
House Democrats just formally introduced our joint resolution to terminate Trump's April 2nd declaration of emergency, which would eliminate the tariffs he announced last Wednesday.
Boyle: It’s pretty striking that literally all Donald Trump had to do was nothing. He could sit there, watch Fox News all day, sit with the remote control, occasionally tweet, and then on weekends go down to Mar-a-Lago and play golf. But instead, he purposely went about ruining this economy.
Very odd and questionably lawful prior restraint order out of Texas. The honor society Phi Theta Kappa is trying to prevent a critic named Toni Market from publishing a free book. They just got this bizarre order from a Texas judge prior-restraining it.

When it comes to this "proof of citizenship" stuff, I find myself leaning more towards making it easier to have copies of one's birth certificate/passport/immigration papers on hand. It's just a solid foundation to have in general.
GOOD NEWS: We’ve secured a court order pausing the Trump Admin’s unlawful attempt to gut $11 billion in critical public health funding.
This will keep funding flowing to help keep our communities healthy and protect us from public health threats. oag.ca.gov/news/press-r...
Tactically, this seems like a fantastic time for institutions (law firms, universities) and individuals (Repubs in Congress) who want to stand up to Trump.
He's openly cratering the economy, the weakness of Elon's ability to buy elections was just revealed in Wisconsin. The emperor has no clothes.
Not only were there elections this week, the WI election was an essential *first* step in securing future elections. And, that election was won despite the richest man in the world using his wealth & power to influence the outcome. Democracy still matters. Those that say otherwise should be blocked.
Police across the US are on high alert over Tesla vandalism incidents, documents released by @propertyofthepeople.org show, with agents pointing to discourse over the best method for triggering a thermal runaway.
The memos make clear FBI-DHS have only attributed the vandalism to "lone offenders."
I'm in a strange spot when it comes to these tarriffs. I'm just uneducated enough about economics to understand why the numbers would "make sense" in the admin's heads, but aware enough of expert opinion to know why they're stupid and an economic shotgun to the face.
As a historian and queer lefty who normally isn't very optimistic about the American people, I've actually got a lot more positive outlook on the fascist resurgence being defeated decisively at the end of four years. Like, actual real hope. But it'd take too long to explain. So, instead...
Again, I wonder where all of these pro-Trump groups went? I've yet to hear *anything* about them beyond J6 pardons and that awkward neo-Nazi march in Columbus.
Like, wouldn't they be taking to the streets in celebration and to harass their enemies? Wouldn't they be staging massive rallies? I feel like there's something amiss here and it's badly underdiscussed.
I think it was the whole "intellectual dark web" thing that made me realize "oh, a lot of these guys believe some really disgusting things they just don't want to say so in mixed company."
Y'know, if there's one aspect of tbe current admin that's underdiscussed, it's where all of those right-wing groups are. News orgs aren't reporting protests, but *nobody* is reporting *anything* about Proud Boys, 3%'ers, Oath Keepers, etc. Are they happy? Are they scared? I wonder…
Democrats need to do more to stand up to Trump. Agreed. That doesn't mean Stephen Miller saying evil shit is somehow the fault of Democrats.
People explicitly blaming Democrats for Republicans "getting away" with being evil is just a flavor of "only Dems have agency." It's a toxic dynamic.
It's a day ending in "y" so there's been a torrent of legal news:
A judge temporarily blocked Elon Musk and DOGE's access to Social Security Administration records and systems with Americans' personal info and ordered DOGE staff to delete data they already had

One of my most esoteric opinions is that, now that cars are basically computers, car software should be made independent and interoperable from car hardware.
There are going to be, I believe, a cascade of economic issues this summer related to the tourist industry. Fewer people will come here to travel. Fewer people will come here to work within the industry.
a friend flying home to the US from Heathrow texts from the runway: “I don’t think I’ve been on such an empty flight since October 2001. I wonder if people are reluctant to come to America now. It’s literally 5% full. If that."
Some DEI programs may have handled Jewish history and identity badly, but it was always obvious to me that Jews should get behind improving and reforming DEI, and that the campaign to abolish it entirely would backfire against Jews. I wish I hadn’t been vindicated so quickly.
So this is absolutely an attack on democracy, but I am struck by the sequencing, because it doesn't resemble - to me at least - the normal sequencing for an authoritarian takeover.
But I think it makes sense given a conspiratorial and inaccurate view of where liberal support comes from. 1/
We spent a while reporting on Davis's past and what motivates him on cost-cutting.
One noteworthy anecdote: Davis was so obsessed with cost-cutting that he removed key parts from SpaceX's Falcon 1 rocket, directly causing its failure on its second ever test flight.

Nearly 140,000 Wisconsinites have already voted. After 2 days of early voting (plus mail), one thing that jumps out when I look at turnout is: Milwaukee + Dane are voting well. But turnout is VERY strong so far in the WOW counties, the three counties that form the conservative ring around Milwaukee.
