I know the vast majority of you are here because of my art, but I need to share a thread about Brazilian politics because what we achieved today deserves to be mentioned and celebrated I'll do my best to be objective for those who have no idea what was happening

The Government™ has made an ad about all these protests happening around the world, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.

”I hope this reflects on the really courageous people who joined me in the beginning of this project when no respectable conservative physicists would have joined me, but many talented people did, and that's why I'm here.” - physics laureate Francis Halzen speaking at today's prize announcement.

The tools to develop new drugs and vaccines have improved enormously, so why haven't we cured all diseases yet? Medical innovation isn't just about the science - it's about the funding, incentives and institutions, and most importantly, on people who choose to solve problems.

It's finally here! I gave a TED talk in April in Vancouver, and it was released online today. You can watch it here: ted.com/talks/saloni... I've also adapted it into an article, which was published last week: worksinprogress.co/issue/future...

When it comes to your children’s health, listen to doctors. Not a president who once told Americans to inject bleach. The American Academy of Pediatrics’ immunization recommendations have not changed.

My radical suggestion for peer review: Move from nominal pre-publication review to explicit post-publication review. The original reason for peer review was that journal pages are a limited resource, so we need a filter before publication. That no longer makes sense with digital publishing. 1/

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.

The trade-off of working in a government research institute rather than in academia is that while you don't teach, you do have other responsibilities in the form of state-mandated tasks. A short thread (1/5 🧵) on one of them which been keeping me busy at sea recently. 🌊

Change the incentives. Measure the percentage of papers by an author that are "good" to promote quality over quantity. Only allow an author to list 3 papers per year on their CV? Kill citation counts and H indices.

At @arxiv.bsky.social, we are receiving a new type of paper that I call an "I did this experiment" paper. These papers typically report some experiment with an LLM or LLM "agentic" workflow. They are the kind of experiments an "insider" engineer would run to optimize a system. 1/

1/ Today, we’re excited to introduce Attie, currently as an invite-only closed beta. Attie is the first agentic social app on atproto. It’s something completely new—an experiment in making building on the protocol more accessible.
