My talk for the V Conference in Defence of Video game's Digital Rights is now available online (in English). If games are the art of agency, and the Anthropocene is (also) a crisis that concerns human and nonhuman agency, are games/videogames the art of the Anthropocene? youtu.be/8O2UiT0RVCY?...

A government could also just seize the studio and do that, no need to give any more dollars to the house of Saud. In fact a government could do this for every studio and transfer it to be collectively owned and governed by the workers. For every business even, not just game studios! O:

this is a very interesting compilation of thoughts (from lots of different people) about Lara Croft. i find the continued legacy inspiring because, if this came out today, gamers would have a fit about playing her. the cultural success says a lot. this character stays relevant in lots of ways.

Tomorrow, Tomb Raider turns 30. I asked LGBTQIA+ activists, artists, content creators and intellectuals to share with me a memory or a comment about the series and its protagonist Lara Croft. Thank you to everyone who responded, including @alienmelon.bsky.social. www.gay.it/30-anni-tomb...

I feel every time anyone writes "developed with a core team of XX" about a game, they have a responsibility to write "developed by YY developers with only XX developers being employed"

M Lupetti reposted

The full team was like 1000 people. People outside of the “core team” did some major heavy lifting. This is outsourcing. What you are doing is outsourcing and then downgrading their contributions. There is nothing innovative about this.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer was made by a core team of 75 people. "What we wanted to do was keep that core small, smaller than perhaps you might have done in the past, and scale capacity and capability with what we call distributed development." https://bit.ly/4hT02qg

We pioneered what we're calling 'Distributed Development', a bold new corporate strategy where we pay workers less money

Why do we keep on doing this? Praising a 'small core team' for a game with 1100+ people in the credits is incredibly misleading. This PR narrative hurts, hides the massive shadow workforce of outsourced developers and testers, and sets impossible standards for actual indie teams.

I'm celebrating International Archaeology Day with the final announcement trailer for Strange Finds! Dig up ruins, piece together finds, and restore the timeline of a lost civilization. Check it out below:

Today Fierce Festival begins in Birmingham, and my interview with one of the guest artists, director Chou Tung-Yen, has just been published in Artribune. He is presenting two parts of a VR/XR trilogy set amid the mists of gay saunas

I don't agree with the "I want videogames developed by humans" take. I'd love to play games developed by machines. But AI games are still too human. I'm also interested in playing games developed by algorithmically remixing giant archives of readymades. But what we are seeing is just dead labour.

one of my primary influences in this project is Anni Albers, particularly her weavings. i love her combination of minimalism, detail, and and organic textures. it's wonderful the way she draws one into seeing process as motion, and invites people to imagine how processes work internally.
