Hey, #BC, turns out there's a way we can get proportional representation... By taking it. By force. It is to take if we want it. All we need to do is to believe in ourselves, & to hit the streets. #BritishColumbia #Canada #PR #BCPoli #CanPoli

Congratulations to the extraordinary efforts and relentless protest/pressure of the Serbian, student-led opposition and to the people of Serbia 👏. The democratic world welcomes you (and thanks you too). Ohh, Putin will be so pissed. 😆

In British Columbia there is the NDP and the anti-NDP. The latter change their name every few decades. These guys haven't been out of power a decade.

Record low NDP voter turnout caused this. 275,000 fewer NDP votes. Congratulations to the #BCGreens the only party to actually gain votes. I never want to hear about "strategic voting" again. The NDP couldn't even be bothered to vote "strategically" for their own party. #bcpoli #cdnpoli

My trauma & addiction recovery shifted when I stopped thinking in terms of "problems," & started thinking in terms of patterns. Focusing on my problems was triggering & depressing me. Focusing on my patterns, w/ compassion & realism, started giving me options.

“I think, therefore I am.” If I no longer have imagination - no longer can think for myself - I am just a hollowed-out consumer. I will have lost that which makes me human. I despise those that take away a child’s imagination and replace it with learning a “tool” that isn’t really a tool at all.

BC election data shows 52% of voters stayed home. Global data shows all things being equal proportional elections have higher turnout than systems built solely on single-winner-ridings, because proportional representation means everyone feels they have a voice.

People can vote for whoever they want, that's democracy. You didn't care about vote-splitting with the BC Greens when you rejected the all-party recommendation for an electoral reform citizens' assembly. You had your chance to reform the system, so whatever happens on election day is on you.

David Eby@davidebybc.bsky.social

Supporters of the BC NDP and the Green Party share a lot of the same values. Strong public health care, protecting the place we call home, and asking the wealthiest to chip in more to build a stronger B.C.

I've reported a lot on OneBC and Dallas Brodie, the party that did its best to promote residential school denialism and attack Indigenous rights in this province. Tonight she lost her riding of Vancouver-Quilchena about as hard as you can lose.

If the B.C. election result stings for you tonight, remember that this province once forced a majority government to back down on a tax it had just brought in. A new government still answers to the same people who hired it.

It's not confirmed Aaron Gunn will run/be acclaimed BC Conservative leader—but it seems likely. It would explain the bizarre announcement from Doerkson that there would be no election night scrum. If this bait & switch happens, it calls the legitimacy of the BC election into question. #bcpoli

The Conservatives want you to believe they can cut your taxes, add no new taxes AND balance the budget, all without touching your health care. The BC Greens have a costed plan that makes life affordable and asks the ultrawealthy to pay their fair share. Vote Green on Saturday, Oct. 24.

It seems to me that the centrists are eying the selfish policies of the right wing and taking notes. The Golden Rule and loving your neighbour is apparently passé.

Mary Gillis@marygillis.bsky.social

The only reason FPTP still exists federally in Canada and provincially in BC is the destructive, endless selfishness of centrists. They'd rather periodically hand over the government to insane conservatives than give up their own chances at majorities. I can't even fathom being that selfish.

Moeberg reposted

The BC Conservatives, an absolute mess of a party full of racists and nuts, might get a commanding majority with 44% of the vote. This will be entirely on the BC NDP and Eby. Entirely. It'll be their fault for not getting rid of FPTP, and for calling an unnecessary election out of pure selfishness.

This is terrifying. A bird flu outbreak has been raging uncontrolled on a mink farm for months. Experts fear it could spark a devastating human pandemic. And officials are refusing to act. What a story from @natlash.bsky.social: www.propublica.org/article/bird...

I'm just noticing that the BC NDP platform is titled "BC Strong" and the BC Conservative's is "Stronger BC." Clearly there's room for another party to run on "Even Stronger BC" or "Strongest BC" or ....? #bcpoli

”…people of color, immigrants, & low-income people are not prioritized in decision making in these two cities. Climate, impeccable design, & engineering are.” UHh…if you prioritize climate, design, and engineering, don‘t you by default improve things for ALL people? I don’t see the downside here??

You rejected a citizens' assembly on electoral reform less than a year ago and told Greens to "go out and campaign for it." Now that they are, you're begging them to stop. Fix our distorted voting system instead of asking voters to abandon their values.

David Eby@davidebybc.bsky.social

If you’ve voted Green in the past, I’m asking for your support in this election. In 11 seats last time, the Green vote was the difference between electing a Conservative and electing a New Democrat.
