Everybody should run to see Wildwood in theaters. It is an incredible film and highly impressive in technical achievement on top of that. Honestly I don't think I've ever seen a movie do practical effects work at this level and it may never happen again.

I agree with ALL of this

I see we're debating binge vs. weekly releases again. Here's my two cents: Television was built on weekly rollouts. They build anticipation, generate buzz, invite discussion, and keep a show in the cultural conversation for weeks, sometimes months. Weekly is the superior model.

Wait, why are they doing a Lego PlayStation? It seems to be a physical object. That doesn't align with their current approach. Should be digital legos only.

What is the difference between "download" and "install"? Our latest video shows how physical games work when released properly: youtu.be/61m1e4Jjick Thankfully, the vast majority of all gaming companies knows how to release games in this state. To all the others, do better!

I've had some difficulty with the new combat in #BlackFlagResynced so I decided to drop the combat difficulty to story. Specifically, the parry timing seems inconsistent and possibly even ignoring inputs at times. But lowering the difficulty for combat seems to have helped some.

Personally, while I respect what they're trying to do with the combat and understanding why, I've always preferred the simpler, more "free flow combat" style of the original game. I would prefer AC to have that style and focus on increasing abilities and complexity like the Batman games did.

When you don't skew the numbers with revenue instead of copies sold, or include digital only games, DLC, mtx, etc, people generally prefer physical when given a choice. This is going to hurt Sony a lot more than they think. Some exec is focusing on revenue with no nuance on what the numbers mean.

If you're going to make a disc, put all the data on it. It's not that hard. Use multiple discs if you have to. Still better than a digital "purchase" though since you can sell, buy used, find competing prices, gift, etc, which you can't do with a digitally purchased game.

Does it play?@doesitplay.org

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced PS5 Does it play offline? No Does it require a download? Yes 44.48GB on disc. Works up until the company logos, then requires an online connection to access the main menu. The type of release that undermines physical media over time.

Many of you see piracy as the only way for game preservation. But the ESA already labels legal solutions envisioned by SKG as illegal. They will triple down and the battle for preservation might descend into all out eternal war between corpos and players. We need that legal base!

This is a grim moment for the gaming community. Sony PlayStation announced today that it will cease all physical games production in 2028. This will essentially erase legal game preservation and ownership on their platform. The ESA lied to lawmakers to bring down the POG Act ...

Imagine the sales pitch Sony PlayStation 6 Digital only, $1000, no more backwards compatibility with your old discs, ultra lengthy cross-gen period, slow first-party release cadence...what a steal! Is this some sort of challenge? Anger your fanbase as much as possible and see what you can sell?

Sony ends physical production in 2028. The bomb we hoped they were smart enough to never trigger. Discoverability, dead. Ownership, dead. Legal preservation, dead. Micro publishers, dead. A billion $ market, and they just throw it away.

This week someone targeted my family for harm with a false report. We’re physically OK, but that doesn’t mean we weren’t harmed. I am beyond furious. Whatever your politics, this is awful, wrong, and can never become normal.

What's happening now is a perfect lecture in media literacy. More and more social posts from different outlets appear talking about a rumored physical release for GTA in December. What looks like confirmation through many sources is just many outlets citing the same rumor.

That...is crazy. I understand needing two accounts, as most games do that these days, but requiring two active PS Plus accounts is something I don't think any other game has ever done when it comes to local multiplayer. That's really bad.

The whiplash this past week regarding everything Xbox is among the most extreme I can recall seeing in the games industry. Going from a hopeful, exciting showcase to the worst possible news. The absurdity of all this is staggering. :(

There's a kind of whiplash of watching and enjoying something like SGF only to wake up the next day and see people complaining about any and everything as usual. The discourse around games is really sad to see at this point. So many people seem unable to just...enjoy anything. Feels bad.

@criticker.com when I filter my ratings by filmmaker in database view, it shows everything they've been in as director, actor, or writer. Is there a way to filter that down further by role? I mean I know if I go to their full page it breaks it down but I like to screenshot database view to post.

I preordered Black Flag Resynced because I was already planning to replay the game so I might as well, but I do worry about the parkour and combat specifically, as I feel the modern engine isn't as good at those things as OG Black Flag was, and Black Flag was so fun to look at during those moments.

Another thing I worry about is the fact that Ubisoft can't ever seem to get HDR right, always having ugly raised black levels that wash out all the colors, like they never test it on OLEDs or in a dark room or something. This game should be colorful and bad HDR could ruin that.

So all of that said, I'm cautiously optimistic. It's my favorite game in the series so I really hope they do it justice. I've been a bit burned by recent AC games in some ways but as long as they protect the original story well, I will probably enjoy it, even if some things aren't as good.

The fact that they avoided adding RPG elements is a sigh of relief, but they also said Mirage wasn't an RPG and it absolutely had everything Valhalla and Shadows had at a smaller scale, so we'll see about that. Some of the additional content did feel somewhat RPG-coded...
