Great to see those "guardians of the countryside" out again flail cutting all the life out of hedgerows long before winter. Every single year. I wonder how many land owners actually stick to doing it late winter on one third rotation, as they should. No wonder we have a #wildlife crisis.

I suggest Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte

When the British monarchy chose to drop the name "Battenberg" during WW1, they should have been required to pick a different type of cake to use.

In the Parco Duca de Cesaro in Taormina, Sicily are these minilithic trilithons. The gardens were created by an English woman, Florence Trevelyan, around the turn of the last century, but I don't know if they are her work or later. @clonehenge.bsky.social #Clonehenge

Scandal in Nottingham as Ye Olde Trip doesn't even make it into the top ten oldest pubs in England. Even worse is that it's beaten by a pub in Southwell. The shame.

Damn, I must have missed those British missions to Mars...

Liz Truss's book Bank Job says that a plot meant she lost the confidence of her MPs in 6 weeks The claim (revelation?) that "several missions to Mars have been launched from Britain's space port" does not connected. The Telegraph reports this suprising apparent fabrication without any comment.

Forty five years ago today I know exactly where I was. At the Hammersmith Odeon. Wearing denim and leather obviously - leather motorcycle jacket (Z650 parked outside), denim cutoff covered in patches. Denim and leather brought us all together It was you that set the spirit free \m/ \m/ \m/

Hidden for centuries beneath limewash and paint, expert conservators have revealed a remarkable collection of medieval wall paintings inside St Lawrence’s, Gumfreston, Pembrokeshire. 1/11

Biggest frustration with modern trains: seats never lining up with the windows. One of the attractions of train travel is looking at the view. Applies across Europe, this desire to cram as many seats as possible into each vehicle.

The future I want is not smart cars that take the place of human beings. The future I want is a massive plethora of trains that enable human beings to meet each other in cool places without driving.
