If we want to stop Elon Musk having a veto over Ukraine's fighting capability, we need to ask why Europe is incapable of building a company like SpaceX and what needs to change to make it possible.

Once again my vague interest in the idea of going to Glastonbury comes up against my realisation of this vague interest when the news is reporting that the tickets have sold out

Things it is still not possible to do in Microsoft Outlook in the year of our lord 2026. Have a calendar meeting which more than one person is allowed to be the organiser of. Have a way to add notes to e-mails in a shared inbox so that other people know what's going on with the e-mail.

Like they were listening to the Art Brut joke lyrics of “we’re going to write a song as universal as happy birthday that makes sure everybody knows everything is ok” and they thought aye go on let’s have a crack

Because the state has loads of spare capacity at the moment!!!

💈 Today is the first reading of my Presentation Bill seeking mandatory registration for all hairdressers and barbershops in England. The Bill has genuine cross-party support and was developed on the back of an excellent Parliamentary event, co-hosted by local barber Mike Taylor...

The train conductor greeted a passenger by name at Kirkstall Forge station, and when I reached Bradford, the staff were passing some toasted crumpets and a mug of coffee over the ticket barrier to another ticket checker

Remind me to post a job advert like this to su.careers before I retire

New PISA data out England is now top ten in all three areas (reading, maths, science) and the second highest performing country outside of east Asia (after Estonia). This is a huge public policy success.

Hahaha fucking helllllllll just read this. So many thoughts. Like “this is how you actually do money laundering, not on Oxford Street” and “British deference to small businesses being honest and taxpaying is the problem”. (Writes a small business owner.) www.theguardian.com/news/ng-inte...

theguardian.comThe other Post Office scandal: how organised crime launders money on the high streetThe long read: Hundreds of millions of pounds of dirty money are being deposited at post offices every year. So why are the police reluctant to investigate the scale of the problem?

My wisdom tooth has its own little gum flap, a tiny fleshy hood, and now a piece of last tuesday’s dinner lives under there permanently, throbbing gently, like a lodger who won’t pay rent but also won’t leave

Me: “This jigsaw you’re doing with a missing piece, surely you should throw it away rather than giving it back to the charity shop to continue the frustration with someone else?” Ana: “No. When education is not liberating the dream of the oppressed is to become the oppressor.”

Forgot dinner time is at lunch in Yorkshire. I’m in Leeds centre, and he is at my home, so have a very unhappy plumber. I have spent too long in London.

Major Bin error, we assumed that the binmen would treat the bins like in Walthamstow where if they’re outside the house the binmen will take them. It seems in Leeds if they’re not on the pavement, they will not be taken, so we have to work out where to put our rubbish for the next two weeks.
