Happy 40th anniversary to the last time the New York Mets won the World Series. In keeping with the 86-year duration of the Curse of the Bambino, the Curse of Bill Buckner will last another 46 years before the Mets finally break it.

Like Dan, I lie and say my kids being born was better too.

22 years ago tonight. The best moment of my life* *until my daughter was born.

You’re gonna want to see what the BlueSky guys have decided is too intolerant for you to read.

Brazil going the way of South Korea. Basically around the world women are desperately trying to keep power out of the hands of incredibly stupid fascistic grifters while men keep trying to hand it over. Men are an embarrassing cringe gender.

My first five RPGs played (I think): 1. Basic D&D 2. Advanced D&D 3. Gamma World 4. Champions 5. Space Opera My list and Charlie’s list demonstrate that he’s a few years older than me, as I never saw a copy of Metamorphosis Alpha (and still haven’t).

1. Basic D&D, supplemented by White Box supplementary kipple 2. AD&D (original, as it came out) 3. Metamorphosis Alpha 4. Traveller (original) 5. There is no 5.

Oh, high school also saw me get into Star Fleet Battles, Car Wars, Metagaming microgames, and similar. Unfortunately my friends were not as obsessive about those as I was, but they did take a lot of my attention away from RPGs.

I enjoyed RPGs more for setting and puzzle-solving and not really for the, well, role-playing. I stopped playing after high school. I got into modern board games (Catan and things after) and point-and-click computer puzzlers after college and those were much more my thing.

Everyone’s kind of tired of it now, but I’m not sure most people realize how amazing the Marvel Cinematic Universe was for comics fans. Finally they captured the essence of the characters *and* had the special effects to make it look great, too.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Oh, I wonder if that’s not a physical picture of him on the microphone but actually whoever reported the photo originally blanking out the logo on the microphone in an amusing way. Very well done either way.

The “San Francisco metro area” must be a geographically small slice of the overall Bay Area by this measure. Because most tech companies you‘ve heard of are more than 10 miles from SF downtown. Heck the San Francisco airport is more than 10 miles away.

Some interesting observations here: Nashville and Austin both have job geographies that look more coastal than Sun Belt, suggesting investment in public transit there would be very successful. Chicago and Philly, despite strong downtowns, suffer from inner ring decay. Dallas is The Bad Place.

Tolle is here in Milwaukee for two days working for MLB as a World Series correspondent. Per a release, "He will appear on MLB Network, produce content across @MLB social media channels, and offer a player’s perspective on the matchup between the Brewers and Rays." Perfect guy for it.

One of the things that AI seems to unambiguously be good at is finding security holes. So to anyone surprised that a hole is found with AI, I say, “welcome to 2026.” I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of these in the next few years (or months).

This is an absolutely astounding press release from eMudhra. No apology, a suggestion that the researcher who found their private keys must have used AI, and an attempt to shift blame to auditors... wow. emudhra.com/en/press-release/emudhra-statement-distrust-global-tls-intermediate-root-ca

Especially in systems which are “vibe-coded”, because one of the things AI seems to be very bad at is writing systems *without* security holes.

it should be like when someone stiffs a contractor -- tear down the electrical poles, shut down the streets around the house, no more garbage pickup, cops and fire dont respond there

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

since California ballots are now out: prop 40 is the billionaire tax, and you should vote yes to stick it to them but both props 41 and 42 are designed to retroactively cancel the billionaire tax because they’re afraid they can’t beat it at the ballot box yes on 40, no on 41 and 42

Flipped to the Rays-Guardians ALCS to see an MLB-sponsored ad in which fans complain about small-market teams needing more of a chance.

A lot of discourse today (about one post in particular) demonstrating that you don’t have to be a Nazi or a Nazi sympathizer to be an apologist for a Nazi bar.
