This is just the maddest argument. These people would trap us in poverty to keep a decade old commitment, which no one ever actually made, to an electorate which no longer exists.

Some ground rules that have helped us: - Go outside your bubble, try new social media channels - Don’t underestimate the power of WhatsApp (although less so in the U.S.) - Post on the Instagram grid, not just stories - Watch every Instagram video until the end before sharing - IGNORE THEM

After the first round elections, Congressman André Janones created a WhatsApp channel titled “Lula’s Army.” It ballooned to 10 million people following his commands on how to behave online to counteract Meta’s far-right-favouring algorithms. The right knows how to use socials. We must learn, too.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

A lot of commentary on Sky about how England “can’t buy a win” and had victory “cruelly taken from them again.” This seems to disregard the fact that they basically threw those games away by not being good enough.

Ugh. The whiny needledicks pulling the handcart to hell. I’d take whatever “feminine energy” is over brittle masculinity any day. Go to therapy and leave us all alone, you broken boys.

“Palantir cofounder and CEO Alex Karp states ‘AI will undermine the influence of highly educated, often female voters and give it to working class men. We have feminine energy running our cities and our courts,’ he complained.”

I am BEREFT that I have no tickets to RAYE at the Albert Hall tomorrow. I tried EVERYTHING to get some, but life was not playing. It will be outstanding. A gig for the ages. Have the best time, if you’re going. Get a bit teary for me.

The great Rachael Smith. Always brilliant.

Another year, another rallying call to stop the right wing entryists from wrecking yet another of our nation’s treasures.

Speaking of voting, if you're a member and you'd like to keep the National Trust's Council free from interference from Britain (and the US's) richest financiers, don't forget to vote before the end of the month. Quick-vote takes moments and avoids the Restore Trust slate of candidates.

I think I might be secretly part of a new game show. I’ve been put up in a hotel for the purposes of some highish-level but relatively low-stakes schmoozing. The putter-uppers have chosen kindly to welcome me with a bottle of champagne in the room. Which would need drinking now. By myself.

I haven’t met many of the schmoozees before. Could they be actors? Do I need to run out and buy a pair of perv glasses so I can mid-convo IMDb them this evening? Will I even be able to operate those glasses when drunk? Are Ant and Dec currently in the vicinity? What’s happening?

Are there cameras? Is this room bugged? Is it a test? Is the new format ‘So You Think You Ended Your Career?’ going to open with my barnstorming episode? Are legal waivers valid if signed when drunk. Asking for not-far-in-the-future me.

The standard argument is if you tax the rich they’ll leave the country and make the place poorer. On the other hand, if you don’t tax them and they stay, they pull this shit, making the country *much* poorer in so many ways.

Arriving at Nice airport to go to a work thing. Plane parks by the perimeter fence, as far away from the terminal as possible. However, this does mean I just walked down a plane gangway onto the Cored’Azur tarmac, wearing sunglasses. Golden Age of Hollywood achievement unlocked.

Exactly this. When people complained about us removing the non-dom status, they predicted a mass exodus. This of course never came because things like enforcement of contract law and a lack of gulags is actually quite attractive.

Dear tv and radio producers. Thankyou for the invitation. But, no, I do not want to appear on your show to defend the idea that I am English, after 50 years of living and working here, because the increasingly feral right want to turn this into a "debate" and you cannot see how you're being played

Good morning. Federal prosecutors in Chicago filed partially redacted documents overnight in the "Broadview Six" case. The redactions appear to include the signature block (including the name) of one of the attorneys representing the United States government:

Meanwhile, in Germany. It's Jews v Nazis again. It's interesting (and terrifying) how it's the half of Germany that didn't spend decades having the kind of long, hard look at itself no other country's ever attempted in which this shit is happening.

I'm half way through S1 of Tall Tales and Murder, and I'm absolutely loving it. Dark as hell, many deep laughs, slightly surreal in parts, great performances from all, lovely to see younger folks like the amazing Ella Lily Hyland and Casey Walsh doing great work. Don't miss it!

At long last! They’re here! Tall Tales & Murder, a bonkers caper, very loosely based on the brilliant novels by @caimhmc.bsky.social, starts on RTÉ and RTÉPlayer tonight. It is, as they rightly say, gas.

Irish friends! Episode 2 is on shortly on RTÉ1. Have at it!

Support the National Trust by voting for Council members by 11:59pm on 30 October 2026. Quickvote is convenient if you're short of time or worried about inadvertently voting for Restore Trust's Bonigala, Cristea, Goldman, Mealing or Omrani. In our often bad times, the Trust's doing good things.

Today marks three years since the iconic Sycamore Gap tree was illegally felled. We're pleased to bring you new images which reveal how the stump is growing, a sure sign that the tree is in recovery.

Once, when working on a TV show, I came into the office to find one of the writers in a dinner suit. I asked him what do he was going to that evening. He said he wasn't going to a do, he'd missed wash day and this was all he had left.

Liam Mulvey@liamjmulvey.bsky.social

Ah. Must be a Tuesday. The weekly wash day is Wednesday.
