The Slasher loons are out in force too - all over the airwaves shrieking at the govt to cut the spending that goes into accumulating GDP - then somehow growth magically happens even though you’re now starting two steps back from where you were. Lessons of Tory austerity disaster going unlearned

You look at how the populists are getting turfed out in #Serbia, #Hungary, #Brazil and the recent positive movement in polls under #Burnham and you think about the feeble #Starmer and ask why on earth he thought caving in to that rotten, racist, dangerous and corrupt thinking was the way forward?

Exactly. Is there anything less British than this? Cringeworthy Far right weirdos

If patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel, then "performative pietism" is surely the panic room inside.

Fraser Nelson commendably points out to the Right that their narrative of 'lawless Britain on the verge of civil war' is the inverse of the truth. And the big rise in immigration has coincided with a big drop in crime. frasernelson.substack.com/p/lawless-br...

frasernelson.substack.com“Lawless Britain”: an updateThis morning’s figures show a scarcely-believable trend: crime down 78pc from its peak and British streets the safest for decades

And already they have moved on to screeching for the dirty Rosebank oilfield to be opened too. Foolish myopic decision

Starmerism from Burnham as drilling in Jackdaw gas Field is approved. This is bad news. The reckless anti net zero zealots won’t stop here. They’re after the whole show and Burnham has shown himself to be just as weak as his predecessor

This isn’t new of course but it is indicative of the descent of America.

This book rocks! I’ve read a preview copy It tells the story of a bold young lady who bravely embarks on a magical adventure of growing pies & dripping down. Unfortunately she is turned into a lettuce. It’s being called the best fantasy book since Tolkien’s ‘Lord of the Rings.’🤓

The problems we have with Donald Trump are two-fold and escalate in severity. Firstly, he is without doubt the worst person ever to be President of the US. Secondly, America elected him twice. It is actually the latter that shatters the foundations of the postwar democratic world.

The global Right is mired in self-serving scandal, near universal policy failure and incompetence, base racism and scapegoating, and clear moral degradation. Human progress is stunted by it.

It’s this kind of result that shows the Reform spasm is fasing

Election Maps UK@electionmaps.uk

Shepshed (Leicestershire) Council By-Election Result: 🌹 LAB: 32.8% (+14.9) ➡️ RFM: 31.3% (-13.6) 🌳 CON: 23.1% (-2.4) ◼️ RES: 6.4% (New) 🔶 LDM: 3.2% (-3.4) 🌍 GRN: 3.2% (-1.9) Labour GAIN from Reform UK. Changes w/ 2025.

With the circus in Washington AfD over in Germany doesn’t get the attention it should for just how extreme it is. Yeah it’s far right but even more unapologetically so that Reform here. What scumbags

Far Right AfD Leader Alice Weidel showing her Russian flag to the Deutscher Bundestag: “We in the AfD want diesel deliveries, a diesel deal for Germany, and we want natural gas and oil from Russia to provide relief to German consumers and German companies.”

47/29 in favour of rejoining #EU prior to campaign is nowhere near enough. Too many still clinging on to Brexit’s rotting carcass and others will be susceptible to all the inevitable bullshit about *them* stealing *your vote* etc let alone tsunami of other lies and codswallop.

Luke Tryl@luketryl.bsky.social

How do people say they would vote, absent a campaign? 47% say they would vote to join, 29% to stay out. Narrow this to 8/10+ likely voters and 59% say they would vote to rejoin and 36% to stay out. Margins for rejoin are high among too young to vote

There isn’t any heft to the Rejoin #EU campaign and still too much dancing on pinheads. If you’re starting from ‘Oh we won’t join the euro, we won’t accept freedom of movement, we won’t accept schengen’ then you’re already on the back-foot and those weaknesses will be ruthlessly exploited by liars.

I’ve started to accept the near certainty of staying outside the EU. The rise in bonehead far right populism here put the prospect back at least two decades. The compromise is to use Brexit’s glaring failure ruthlessly to keep the Right from power in the UK permanently. I’ll accept that trade off.

A rather chaste Nick Ferrari on #LBC this morning as it finally dawns on him that oops! Donald Trump really is a scumbag. Back to normal tomorrow I bet

England is a made up thing. It has no basis in the ineluctable laws of nature. Its extent is defined by Edward II getting his arse handed to him. Athelstan conquering York. The Welsh of Cumbria were incorporated, the Welsh of Gwynedd were not. It is a political idea, an aspiration - not taxonomy.

Jacob Rees-Mogg, the most stereotypically Tory conservative man of the 21st Century, responded to Suella Braverman with a long-form video criticizing her position and rejecting a race-based theory of Englishness, and in response has been ratioed by the increasingly feral British online far-right.

When you thought you couldn’t despise moronic right-wing grifters any harder, look below at how they attempt to manipulate people. This analysis applies to the rest of the ‘foreign aid’ budget too - mendaciously crafted facile headlines distorting projects that’ve been through several bid reviews

🧵 Matt Goodwin demanded to be fact-checked live on air when he claimed the UK spent "£100 million PER YEAR on family planning and condoms in Pakistan". He then 'corrected' himself to £74.3 million, saying it was based on a "major news story from October 2025" He was, of course, still wrong... 1/30

Good including point that IHT cuts do not much (I’d argue nothing) for GDP

Dan Neidle@danneidle.bsky.social

Kemi Badenoch wants to exempt the family home from inheritance tax. But that creates a perverse incentive for elderly people to *upsize* to save IHT. That could double the cost of the policy, and push £100bn+ from savings into housing. A 🧵 on bad tax cuts.

The Tories sorely need a new David Cameron, but one with backbone. They’re a galaxy away from this, though I sense more Tories are only putting up with Badenoch’s infantile nonsense for now until she and the hyper online movement she defines is clobbered in the next election.

The small Boat crossings and Brexit are coincidental timelines. The intersection of demand and technology was always going to make the channel crossing more feasible over time. If we were still in the EU the boats would still be arriving and they’d be another stick to beat the EU with.

So we can be thankful the counterfactual to ‘let’s leave the EU to stop boat crossings!’ is playing out now. Although the proxy is all the rightwing saps shouting to leave the ECHR. Fancy wanting to hand your rights to the likes of Farrige or Badenoch. But brains there are well and truly boiled

What is the market for the wacky litany of half-baked, resentment-dripping, anti youth policies the #Conservatives have pumped out the last couple of days? Do they not realise their vote base is dying out and they absolutely need young voters - trust funded weirdo Tory boys ain’t going to cut it
