Don't name your stack or hint you were compromised. "Our PHP app/site is now patched" tells a potential attacker what you run and where you might have future gaps. ⚠️ Instead keep it plain and jargon-free: "We continually monitor and update our systems to keep your data safe" is better language. 🤟

The cherry on top: make sure your app or site doesn’t advertise your stack through headers or common URLs. 😘 Stay safe out there folks!

I wrote this quickly at a bus stop and didn't realize it would go viral, or else I would have worded it better. But the point is that the media is too credulous about AI killing everyone in 10 years (how?) when climate change is killing people now and will only get worse (we know exactly how).

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

Any chance Apple will launch. Fitbit Air equivalent at the September event? I’m awfully tempted to replace my now ageing Apple Watch with something that doesn’t nag me all day but tracks my exercise and sleep. #apple #surpriseandshine

Episode 1 of New Grand Tour, I’d give it a 6 out of 10. And to be fair, early episodes of old Grand Tour were probably a 7, so all in all - not bad. #grandtour

My Apple HomePod has started playing music at random times of the day despite no one asking it to do so, even when I’m not at home (I can see it playing through the Home app). Anyone else experiencing this or is my HomePod just developing some kind of musical sentience.

We have seen many examples of what people can make with very little effort in the new world. We have not yet seen what can be made with tremendous effort and it will be astonishing.

Impressive customer service from Anthropic, they detected billing related to some cloud code sessions that got stuck in a restart loop while waiting for a permission prompt to be answered, proactively refunded me the credit usage fee and doubled it.

I’m Done Using AI. “It made me lazy. It made me stop caring. It made me a worse programmer. It made me depressed. Because I stopped doing the hard work, I stopped learning, I stopped growing, I stopped being the one making the software.” [brettcodes.com]

CHILD’S PLAY: I found the perfect way to make an iPhone child-friendly, one that completely blocks web browsing but allows tracking and navigation. It’s not a paid-for 3rd party app, it’s completely free. Why is Apple not highlighting this great feature more? @wired.com www.wired.com/story/this-b...
