@nihvigils.bsky.social

We commemorate and mourn the losses resulting from cuts to funding, programs, and people that have been both discriminatory and indiscriminate. We gather every Saturday at 10 am at the Medical Center Metro station at NIH in Bethesda. Opinions are our own.

SCOTUS reform will need to come first for any reform to stick

Nick Weininger@nweininger.bsky.social

Good article-- only caveat is it IMO underplays two key roles Congress will have in making accountability politically and legally possible: 1. hearings that dramatize the worst abuses to the world to create consensus on the necessity of prosecution 2. new SCOTUS justices who will uphold prosecutions

Replying to @davidakaye.bsky.social

this is where impunity (and unaccountable wealth) leads & why we need to build a movement for accountability for all those who've escaped it for so many years

Elon Musk threatens Congress.

A thousand times yes

David Kaye@davidakaye.bsky.social

we're going to need a long-term plan, with broad political appeal, for ending impunity & holding the trump administration accountable for its crimes, malfeasance & cruelties. not 'tit-for-tat' but an american version of transitional justice. my take in @slate.com 👇

Imagine selling out to the point you'd take corporate money to undermine emergency public health guidance. Brownstone is a major reason the US had worse pandemic mortality than many European countries. Vile.

One of the funniest things I’ve ever seen: Bhattacharya will chat with RFK Jr’s kooky science adviser, Martin Kulldorff, the dude who got $ from suing HPV vaccine makers, about how “science is under attack”🤣 Jay, RFK & Martin killed, banned or censored science that they hate—they are the attackers!

Calley Means has taken his ball and gone home because he realized he got conned by RFK Jr. But this is definitely a case of “let them fight”. Means is himself a grifter who probably didn’t get enough pellets from RFK Jr.’s grift dispenser even though he kept pressing the bar with his little paw.

A highly regarded physician-scientist recommended by NIH Director to lead the agency’s mental health institute is no longer in the running. Instead, RFK Jr. favors a researcher who studies treating mental illness with diet—an approach advocated by some in MAHA. www.science.org/content/arti...

I’m a Program Officer and scientist at NIH, writing in my own personal capacity, and RFK Jr. is harming the NIH. I look with alarm at the harms he has done to our sister agencies, FDA and CDC, and to public health in general.

Mark Histed@markhisted.org

This week, NIH advisors rebuked RFK for harming #NIH and US science. Sheryl Gay Stolberg reported it. Then RFK posted calling her sources anonymous or corrupt. I'll say this hoping it does good: I'm an NIH scientist, I'm not anonymous, and RFK Jr is destroying NIH. More in attachment:

The health of 342 million Americans shouldn’t depend on one person’s beliefs. I’m an NIH scientist, clinician, and autism specialist. RFK is dismantling NIH. If he wanted to build trust, he’d reimburse clinicians for time to answer patients’ questions, not create a CPT code for vaccine injury.
