NEW: Officials in New Mexico and El Paso, Texas, spent millions of dollars drafting separate plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Neither plan took into account how the construction of 3 new data centers could upend climate goals in both places. w/ @elpasomatters.bsky.social @texastribune.org

It's World Homeless Day, and I'll just say: Homelessness isn't some great unsolvable mystery. People are homeless because they don't have homes. This suffering persists not for lack of solutions, but because enormous wealth and power are invested in maintaining the very structures that produce it.

In a surprise to no librarian, @penamerica.bsky.social is reporting about manga being a particular target of book banners right now. It's almost like they don't want teenagers to read. pen.org/banned-manga/

As PLA President Jamar Rahming told AfroTech, "Giving up high-speed internet is not an option for libraries." That means proposed E-Rate cuts would impact broader library budgets: https://afrotech.com/fcc-eliminating-funding-for-libraries Tell Congress and the FCC to #SaveOurERate: ala.org/erate

I thought this point Eric made about how libraries are early introductions to a social contract was really interesting, too:

So... this takes a whole lot longer to climb out of than you might imagine. We've managed to keep things going for the time being—thanks to so many of you!—but we're definitely not out of the woods yet. Every subscription helps! Less than $2.50/month! www.brightwalldarkroom.com/subscribe/

Fundraiser for librarian Luanne James, who stood up to her rightwing library board that demanded she remove kids books with any trace of LBGTQ+ characters or content. "I will not comply." They sacked her and cops escorted her out. She's a hero. This banned author just donated.

Two-year-old Kaleth is being locked away at the Dilley trailer prison. He is getting sicker with each passing day. He will not eat the food CoreCivc serves, which detainees have said sometimes has mold and worms. He now has a fever.

Video I obtained through a public records request on behalf of MN50501 shows Liam and his dad boarding a Delta Air Lines flight at MSP. Delta was silent when workers were being snatched up by ICE at MSP, but was a vocal supporter of the Big Beautiful Bill, which increased ICE’s funding.

New — My case for why it’s not enough to call this “Trump’s war” when violence abroad implicates us all, and how we don’t need hindsight to know that unequivocally opposing this war will be the correct (and only morally defensible) choice:
