20/ Serbian students 11-point program has a political philosophy: "Not just changing the people in power, but changing the rules that enable the monopolization of political power and the subjugation of state institutions and citizens' lives to the control of those in power." x.com/IsinElicin/s...

This Day in Labor History: October 27, 1948. An air inversion trapped the pollution spewed out by U.S. Steel-owned factories in Donora, Pennsylvania. The Donora Fog killed 20 people and sickened 6000 others. Let's talk about this deadly legacy of industrial pollution. That photo was taken at noon!

I don’t know how people could say that programming and art are completely different disciplines when both workflows involve going ‘This will never work, I’m a failure’, changing one thing, then thinking you might be the smartest person alive

The mobilization itself was already not something I ever expected to see, but to actually win? Hell, to double the winning margin from the 2022 runoff? Genuinely surreal. Maybe child raping billionaires *don't* have to run the world with a shit-eating grin. Maybe that can stop.

Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

so amusing when my login has expired and the browser is like "you do not have access to this JSTOR article" No, I promise you. I do. (....just out here trawling social science papers on a weekend like you do, trying to understand wtf is the deal with MA question 3)

HOLY SHIT. In a sworn statement yesterday, an ICE agent told a federal judge that an ICE flight to Equatorial Guinea had been cancelled and so couldn't be used to bring Ahmed Soliman back to the United States. The plane just landed in Equatorial Guinea. prospect.org/2026/10/23/t...

OrangeCat. Would like you to know. There's a dove. In the bird feeder. Right outside the window. It is the perfect snack. For orange cats. If he could get it. Maybe you could help. Urgently. Mew.

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

today is your reminder that the 'Guennol Lioness', a proto-Elamite statuette, confirms evidence that humans have been hot for massive furry women since at least 5000ish BCE, contemporary with our invention of the wheel and the first cohesive writing systems

how all of these conversations would actually go

Philip Bump@pbump.com

Even if this were viable as a concept (that there's an afterlife; that it allows conversations with others; that enslavers are going the same place as you), who cares? Oh, are you mad at me, Ben Franklin? Tough shit.

SMUGGLE YOUR MATERIALS TO THE ARCHIVIST

Frank Cifaldi@frankcifaldi.bsky.social

Part of my literal job is to fly out to physical game studios to rescue and recover historical materials that might be endangered and put them in a permanent archive. @gamehistoryorg.bsky.social is a 501(c)3 publicly funded to do that, my DMs are open, and I'm free for the next couple weeks...

BREAKING: SCOTUS rejects Trump admin's request to allow it to end gender-affirming medical care in prisons — a significant, if tentative, rejection of one of the admin's most extreme anti-trans arguments. Only Thomas and Alito noted they would have granted the stay. More to come: www.lawdork.com

3. You can get a book recommendations newsletter that's not on a Nazi friendly playform! My monthly recommends an old book, a new book, a forthcoming book, and a book I haven't finished. It's fun! The books are almost all small press & all weird!

shitposts aside, this one is serious, my loves: if you’re just waking up and you have any service online running PHP 5.4 to latest, you need to take it down RIGHT NOW and don’t put it back online until after it’s patched absolutely catastrophic vulnerability dropped in the middle of the night

170 OB/GYNs for the whole state of Idaho. I’m from a similarly-sized red state and there are 76 OB/GYNs just in the large academic medical center in my hometown. 170.

Just spent a Sunday afternoon getting poll worker training for the wardens & clerks. Lotta behind-the-scenes procedural differences this year because there are A BILLION ballot questions in MA, so we have a two-page ballot, so all the counting is different!

Also there are small differences because the elections department collects feedback and makes stuff a little better every time because actually they are awesome :) You have never seen a room so excited about better tape.

Crazy idea: Democrats should defend immigration and immigrants, run on the idea that immigrants make America great, and stop Homer Simpsoning themselves into the shrubbery every time Republicans try to demagogue it.

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social

New Marist poll of Texas finds 61% say undocumented immigrants should stay in US if meet certain requirements. Only 35% say they should leave. A majority of noncollege white men (Trump base) says stay. Supports my case (see piece/thread below) that Trump opened way for new pro-immigrant consensus
