If you are searching for a post-doc opportunity in skin biology and HSV-1 research, please reach out to be considered for our T32 Interdisciplinary Training Program in Skin Biology. (please note this fellowship is only available for U.S. citizens or green card holders)

Voting for ASV (American Society for Virology) president ends next week, and I only now learned that @szparalab.bsky.social is in the running! Moriah is one of the most caring people, especially for trainees, in our field, and I can't recommend her enough โค๏ธ

In this study, led by BlueSky-less superstar undergrad Andrew Lazarus, we set out to ask whether longer reactivation events during sleep lead to more memory benefits. Results suggest this is not the case, but there are some disclaimers. Read all about it! #sleep www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Itโ€™s been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). Iโ€™m reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS or other (non-LCH) dendritic or histiocytic sarcomas cases.

The last class for my upper division Virology class is coming up, entitled "weird viruses". Please share the weirdest viruses you know of! So far, I plan to talk about virophages, plant viruses and multi-partite viruses, but all suggestions are welcomed :)

In our latest paper @pnas, we reported CRISPR-Translate, a genome-wide CRISPR-Cas9 knockout screen-based method designed to identify factors regulating translation. We discovered IRF2 as a novel regulator of OAS3/RNase L-mediated RNA decay during viral infections. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Newsky tip: Searching someone's feed here is sorta clunky but here is how it works... "from:@mementomorty.bsky.social [pickles]" or "from:@aetiology.bsky.social [rfk]" If you want to search your own timeline replace the @username with "me". Whatever is inside the brackets is the search term.

Grad student Drake Philip developed a simple and tractable model for inducing HSV reactivation in mice - we are excited to use this system to study immune responses controlling recurrent HSV disease and to gain new insights into HSV neurobiology. We hope this will be a useful advance for the field!
