There's a possibility this backfires. Imagine the "Harris is for they/them; Trump is for you" ad worked bc voters were upset Biden wasn't focused on the economy (not bc they hate trans ppl). How will those voters feel about a GOP tanking the economy and then flooding their TV with anti-trans ads?
I think the GOP eating complete shit after running a billion dollars in anti-trans ads is the best outcome possible overall.

New — I wrote about Vivek Ramaswamy’s weaponization of Amy Acton’s childhood sexual abuse and how it’s only the latest symptom of a Republican party flush with rape apologists, led by an adjudicated rapist:

“But surely all academics want their papers to be read” you cry. Some certainly do. But a lot of people actively dislike it. They want them to be counted, of course, in various ways—n citations, impact of outlet, etc—but you might be surprised at how many would prefer people not actually read them.
I would go so far as to say that "debate" in practice is almost universally counterproductive for all participants. I've learned things from people who disagree with me, had my mind changed, observed friends changing their minds, etc. But all of that only happened when it didn't feel like a debate
The fetishisation of "debate" as some sort of grand public good that everyone should do is so thoughtless and jarring to me because the more you actually do it the more it becomes apparent that genuinely constructive debate is actually a pretty niche thing.
Occasionally I remember that Richard Dawkins is a particularly hateful transphobe. And then I wonder if he realizes how much of his popularity and how many of his book sales came from trans people (many pre-transition!) in the 00s. Like no wonder he can't replicate the success of the God Delusion!
every now & then someone on the anti-trans side will get cold feet about how openly ugly it's all getting—they want to keep the image of a nice, sensible centrist but it's never enough for them to get off the train

As a nominal Catholic, this is heresy. But also like, Ben Franklin would go Johnny Bravo over the existence of trans women.
Even if this were viable as a concept (that there's an afterlife; that it allows conversations with others; that enslavers are going the same place as you), who cares? Oh, are you mad at me, Ben Franklin? Tough shit.

Systematic review relevant to the discourse on diagnoses and meds. "ADHD was associated with increased all-cause mortality, suicide mortality, unintentional or intentional injury mortality, and natural-cause mortality, whereas ADHD medication use was associated with reduced all-cause mortality."
