Defund ICE. Take its entire budget and devote it to a Manhattan Project that can devise and implement sound guardrails for AI, and figure out how to stop what can and should be stopped in the way of superintelligence and recursive self-improvement.
AI is far, far more dangerous than immigrants.
The oil industry buys off Congress. No action on climate.
The NRA buys off Congress. No action on guns.
Insurance companies buy off Congress. No action on health care.
Big Tech buys off Congress. No action on AI safety.
The list goes on and on.
Money in politics is the root of our dysfunction.
When a President with his own plane claims it's too hard for him to vote in person, would GOP politicians and Fox News like to explain why, for example, a working mother or someone working two jobs to pay the rent should have no problem waiting in line on election day?
Just 10 billionaires have already poured over $600 MILLION into this year's midterms.
In the entire 2008 presidential cycle, the last election before Citizens United, total billionaire spending was $16 million.
If you're wondering what the real threat to "election integrity" is, it's Big Money.
The common thread to any and all Trump nominees is a willingness to put Trump ahead of the constitution. It’s literally the only job requirement. Nothing else matters.
All these hearings are just Dems getting them to admit it, while Republicans show they don’t care.
I would like a side-by-side account of the cost of: the Iran war, the reflecting pool, the ballroom, the Qatari plane, the WWE fight; DOJ settlement payoffs (like to Ashli Babbitt) and any other vanity projects I'm missing; compared with all of the "waste and fraud" supposedly saved by the DOGE cuts
For everything Trump does or says, you have to stop and ask, “how would this benefit a criminal or group of criminals” to get the real meaning or intent.
The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”
That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.
If Maxwell wasn't involved in Epstein's child rape op, then why was she on the run from the FBI, masking her identity & location?
Innocent people don't go to those lengths
And why did she sue for a portion of Epstein's estate?
Uninvolved people don't lay claim to someone's $$ they had no part in
There are so many times this nightmare should’ve been over, but I’ll never get how inciting a violent coup on J6 didn’t lead to a prison term post haste. That fucker should’ve been yanked by the lapels out of the White House, handcuffed, and hauled away that day. Everyone knew he was responsible.
7. If this bill passes, Americans die, deficits explode, climate investments turn off and the rich get richer. If it goes down, those bad things don't happen. Those are the stakes. Keep your eyes on the prize.
I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it a thousand times more: If you love freedom but don’t care if it applies to everyone, what you actually love is privilege.
I have tariffed

We are done with a time of straight facts only reporting. We are now in a time where legal and political context in journalism is EVERYTHING.
To wit: Donald Trump cannot take away security clearances that people never had...pass it on! shero.substack.com/p/connect-th...
The decisive test of our society in my lifetime was the 2024 election and our failure was spectacular and total. I will never again have any faith in the American electorate to do the obviously right thing.
also this longstanding dem idea that they should stand around and do nothing until public anger starts bubbling over on its own is a cheap way to dodge accountability and agency
dems should be on TV and socials 24/7 standing next to fired workers shaping, nurturing, and cultivating that outrage
It’s not just that the money gained is from mass firings, those firings mean less safety, less service for the public. I don’t want a $2000 check if it means that food is less safe, flying is less safe, TB, tsunamis, and Ebola are not being tracked, lakes & rivers are filled with poisons, etc, etc.
The deal is I punch you in the face
How about I give you $50 instead
Nope, I want to punch you
I’ll buy you dinner but no violence
Sorry, I really like to punch
Ok, what if you slap me medium-hard
It’s a punch in the face or nothing
Ok fine, punch me. I can’t be blamed for obstructing a deal
imo the left really needs to put a lot more effort into organizing veterans, especially now. they aren’t a political monolith, and a lot of them are getting screwed over right now.
Things are moving quickly, but it looks like these Sen's especially need calls from *constituents* to vote NO on cloture:
Angus King (ME)
Amy Klobuchar (MN)
Jacky Rosen (NV)
Brian Schatz (HI)
Maggie Hassan (NH)
Jeanne Shaheen (NH)
Gary Peters (MI)
Capitol switchboard is 202-224-3121.
"The era of letting Republicans break all the rules, not follow any of the laws, run roughshod over the Democrats, while the Democrats continue to just try to protect every possible existing norm and institution, that era is over." Time for Chuck Schumer to get the memo. Tim Miller:
The fight going on in the Democratic Party right now is not between hard left, left and moderate. It’s between those who want to fight and those who want to cave. And Team Fight stretches across all ideological aspects of the Party. Misread this at your own peril.
“Area merchants uniformly like the concept of what the mafia set out to do—provide protection from unexpected disasters—but have been frustrated by the threats of broken kneecaps and the expensive bribes.”
Mass firings, shutting down critical services, blowing up our alliances, crashing the markets, encouraging inflation...
These aren't the actions of a political party aspiring to get reelected.
These are the actions of an authoritarian regime that does not intend to honor elections ever again.
This feels like a sort of carnival-week funeral for the US republic. Beneath deep anger at Trump's orgy of vandalism and self-worship, I feel deep sadness. What a train wreck of a superpower.
Sometimes it feels like I’m going crazy, because there is something that is right in front of our faces, has been for years, and nobody of consequence ever says it:
Donald Trump works for Vladimir Putin.
How much more proof does anyone need? And what is anybody going to do about it?
An entire Trump Administration of the world's worst Affirmative Action hires compromising of thoroughly unqualified men, white mediocre men, kiss ups, toadies, bootlickers and cultists.
A good moment to remember the Russia thing was always real. Trump's goal is to help Russia and Putin, always has been. He's trying to throw our democratic allies under the bus and America as well. Again, the Russia thing was always real.
If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general.
If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.
New: Project 2025, which Russell Vought is the architect of, advocates for cutting NIH funding. But, it has been NIH-funded research that contributed to Vought’s own daughter having better treatment options for cystic fibrosis.

“We urge every attorney to join us and insist that our government, a government of the people, follow the law. It is part of the oath we took when we became lawyers. Whatever your political party or your views, change must be made in the right way.“ www.americanbar.org/news/abanews...
I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.
Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO
Hi, I know a thing or two about state media. This is what real state-controlled media looks like. The state does not always own it. Many times, oligarchs who want government contracts own it. Sound familiar?
Elon Musk does not give a single shit about how much money the government spends. Everything he is doing is to reduce its power to regulate all his shit-ass businesses. This should be in the first paragraph of any story about it.
Democrats: "The guy you're about to elect will set the house on fire!"
Voters: "Not sure I believe you, we're going to vote for him anyway."
*guy immediately sets the house on fire*
Democrats: "Ah well, we already tried talking about the burning house before. No point now."
