I just realized that I’ve now been working in games for TWENTY YEARS! It all started with a 2006 internship at the legendary area/code games in New York, where I got to work alongside some brilliant humans who continue to influence my career and values to this day.

I used to think that my career started with my first paid gig as a designer, back in 2008 with Zynga. But area/code is truly where I cut my teeth and learned how to think about games (and game dev) differently. And now, 20 years later, I’m back making games in NYC! numberless.net/portfolio/ar...

i feel like people don't get that game design is *itself* a skill, and not one that you can get by just playing a bunch of games. You need to see the grain to know which direction to cut.

This game is weird and lovely. If you've ever felt a little like you're in a place you don't quite belong, or you ever wondered what it's like solving a mystery in some sort of retro time nexus full of characters who are just the 100% most, you gotta help this one get made.

Hit my late 30s & now if I think about playing video games it triggers a disgust response. Don't think this is a universal feeling nor do I think it is a medium without merit. But I'm paralyzed by the thought of how much time I spent on them when I could have been doing something more constructive.

jokes aside: I would be delighted to suddenly get a text from someone who I hadn’t heard from in ten years. It is never too late to re-enter my life.

My cynical hope is that if this continues to be declared irreversible and inevitable by those in power, then it’s as good an argument as any for UBI (or: ongoing royalty payments in perpetuity to past, present and future victims of AI theft [everyone]).

Two-thirds of NYC’s income growth since the pandemic went to the top 1%. The richest 0.001% — about 50 families — saw their average income soar from $315 million in 2019 to nearly $600 million a year. It’s time to build a city that works for everyone.

LLMs cease to be useful when they can't be used to scam people into unknowingly reading slop anymore. When the typewriter was invented, no one had to pretend its output was handwritten to get people to accept it. Typing had its own utility. LLMs are scamtech that have no utility outside the scam.

If it looks like an Amazon delivery and drives like an Amazon delivery, then it's an Amazon delivery, right? Not according to Amazon. Big companies like Amazon have built a vast network of subcontractors who deliver their packages while shielding them from accountability.
