I do not know how many people I had to ask to finally find my way to S— Street, which is indicated on no map of the major metropolis in which I spent those inquiring months, but now that I have been there and seen for myself what dwells among their trashcans, I do not believe I shall return.

every now & then someone on the anti-trans side will get cold feet about how openly ugly it's all getting—they want to keep the image of a nice, sensible centrist but it's never enough for them to get off the train

Ramaswamy is doubling down on the ad starring Amy Acton's abusive mother defending Acton's rapist and calling her a liar about it at age 12 because Republican politicians and voters ideologically support the physical and sexual abuse of women and children by men, whom they see as their owners.

Now is the time to care about everyone, not “once we win” The time to care about everyone is always always always now

Unfortunately there are people who care about trans people having rights who are not trans people themselves and I’m sure that the number will suddenly grow exponentially post election when candidates have lost and you’re looking for someone to blame that isn’t the candidates themselves

Be sure to check your child’s Halloween candy. Last year, we found a copy of Atlas Shrugged in a fun-size Milky Way.

Antipathy for reboots aside, my hottest take is that Girls was a good (occasionally great) show and you don’t have to be a brain genius to see why it got so pilloried in the discourse. I’ll gladly die on this hill.

LETTERMAN: In fact Digger is doing so poorly that Tom Cruise has been using the empty theaters to hide Shelly Miscavige. [big bass sting from the band, scattered laughs, some "ooohs"] Have you seen Shelly Miscavige lately, Paul? SHAFFER [smiling]: Not recently, Dave.

I’m sorry, but if you bring an iced coffee - or any damn beverage at all - to a job interview, you’re disqualified. It’s not hard, people.

microsoft have essentially bought up and bulldozed almost an entire american arts industry as a half-hearted distraction from their main project of trying to monopolise and rent-seek global digital infrastructure and military contracts

If I’ve never played a Wizardry game, which one (and what version) should I check out? I’m looking to get a sense of the series’ flavor, and I suspect I’ll only play one.

two different paragraphs, two different sections but encourage you to click and read the unsealed (pink) of both of them together. And stop and think about the impact and harm to news media and civil society. /8

Eye popping. Court just unsealed Summary Judgment motions in New York Times v OpenAI / Microsoft. Easy to see why the AI companies had so many redactions (pink). Their own people wrote the lede for NYT, the "largest theft of labor in human history"... "more and more substitutive..." /1

The fundraising texts you delete are working on someone. It’s infuriating and heartbreaking. An 85yo in Ohio gave more than double the value of his home. A 91yo in an Indianapolis senior facility gave 25K times. The DCCC/DSCC don’t just tolerate the spammers who exploit seniors. They take part.

My boring but correct answer: An actual follow-up series to Deep Space Nine, set ~30 years later. Focus on galactic politics, of Bajor and Cardassia in particular. Light on the cameos; the point of the show is history, theme, tone, not a bunch of callbacks. Tony Gilroy and I as co-showrunners.

Suddenly reminded of how Kevin Kruse was also caught dead to rights with plagiarism in his dissertation, also by a right-wing racist academic, but he's white and posts a lot so his institution issued a statement about how it was fine and nobody talked about it again; so he could get back to posting.

It’s a PARTICULARLY obtuse thing to say about Newton in particular, who had to very cannily negotiate holding quite unorthodox religious views at a time when universities were in many ways annexes of the Church. I don’t see him being flummoxed by 21st century HR.

Olúfẹ́mi O. Táíwò@olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social

I really can't get over this, this is such a wild example. there was a whole Church Inquisition torturing and extorting suspected heretics in Newton's day and we are being invited to ask whether he would have survived land acknowledgments lmfao bsky.app/profile/pwhi...

The honourable critic will write, 'You know what? I don't care. This is a colossal waste of money, an insult to everyone's intelligence. God knows how many new shows & movies could've been made with this. But instead we're queueing up to service the dumbest, most unimaginative people alive.'
