Unfortunately there are people who care about trans people having rights who are not trans people themselves and I’m sure that the number will suddenly grow exponentially post election when candidates have lost and you’re looking for someone to blame that isn’t the candidates themselves

What the Democratic Party learned from that was to stay quiet during the primary campaign and only turn on the transphobia during the general campaign. Seems like needing to be two-faced about it indicates they know it's a failed stategy. Being a bigot is more important than winning.

Correct. It's also why people trying to frame bigots like they hold a ton of sway are just wrong; Exceptionally few Dems are Transphobic, and those that are are widely disliked. Treating bigots like they hold any cards is genuinely helpful to them when in reality we can and regularly do beat them.

the amount of trans people is pretty comparable to the amount of jewish people, and I seem to recall many a centrist dipshit fearmongering about Zohran and Abdul El-Sayed alienated jewish people (they haven't) and how that will tank their campaign 🤷‍♀️

oh and between the two of these, trans people are the ones facing material marginalization, in a way that jewish people aren't. Antisemetism is prevalant and permeating through a lot of other reactionary rhetoric, but theres no state where jewish people's drivers liscenses are voided

noones fearmongering about jewish children in sports or bathrooms endangering "fairness in childrens' sports" because everyone recognizes that to be obviously ridiculous, but the same thing when said about trans people is suddenly seen as "valid discourse"

Pundits as a class must be well below 1% of population. Maybe we deny medical care to and force them out of society without a lot of backlash.

You don't just get to declare yourself a supporter while demanding trans people vote for bigots in a shade you prefer. I promise, you're not 'anti everything MAGA.' You're just mad you're not in charge.

So you’ll vote for them regardless, and when they learn they can abandon trans people and still get voted in, it becomes impossible to hold their feet to the fire.

yes i heard this about biden in 2020, who ended his term breaking the law to send additional weapons to israel before trump could do exactly the same; vote how you want but your little scenario has to include "push him left after the election" being completely fake

Every election cycle, “pragmatic” liberals say stuff like this and then it gets to the part after the election where the “hold their feet to the fire” part should begin and everyone Goes Back To Brunch because Blue Team won. And then we fast-forward 1 term and repeat.

In what way, by the way, do you intend to “hold their feet to the fire”? What’s the strategy there? Because if the sentiment is “well, we have no choice but to vote for them no matter what” you kinda start the whole thing with no teeth. “You’d better change or I’m gonna vote for you still anyway!”

Just walking into a car dealership saying “look, I’m gonna buy this car no matter what you say or do, but you’d better give me a good deal on it or I’m going to have no choice but to pay whatever you’re asking.” If you never draw a line, how can we ever expect you to?

that usually when “we have to think about the next election/midterms” the window of time the squish liberals will allow for any meaningful “feet to the fire” is pretty much nonexistent

Like, I completely agree with everybody. The bit I don't get is why everyone is ok with more GOP. What am I missing here? I withhold my vote for the dem, which is my right, the GOP candidate wins, and as I'm at gunpoint I'm thinking "at least I didn't vote for that shitty dem"?

If you don’t correct the behavior when you first see it, it becomes MUCH harder to correct it later. I didn’t vote for him in the primary, I am not voting for him now. If we KEEP voting for the BAD centrist Democrats, they will KEEP RUNNING bad centrist democrats. Voting for bad candidates just

The trans people expressing outrage about betrayals by Democrats are *also* holding their feet to the fire. They aren't refusing to vote for Democrats at all. The deal is that a Democrat chooses to actually oppose fascism rather than participate in it, and boom, votes received.

Democrats willingly choose to support fascism if they get a seat in power. I mean, look at fucking Schumer and Jeffries. Progressive Voters want confirmation that they actually oppose every aspect of fascism... Not the parts that are convenient or easy.

The Democrats taking transphobic policy positions are already overtly engaging in crass triangulation rather than holding firm to a principled position, so there is absolutely no reason to pretend like they aren't capable of re-triangulating to a *non*-fascist position.

Those aren't your only two options. And if you're somewhere where they're the only two folx running, then get involved in your community! Organize! Encourage people who would govern well to RUN! And then organize like hell so they win. Enough w this defeatism. We know the only way out is organizing.

You've removed yourself from the conversation and are left with nothing but to beg others to be as passive and pointless as you. Even the transphobic Democrats you adore have contempt for you.

How, exactly, do you propose you would “hold their feet to the fire”? They already got your vote. That's the only thing that matters to them.

It's super weird how many people, who have no stake in trans rights (no kids, dont play sports, dont know any trans people), are so negatively opinionated on the subject. When it was Harris vs Trump, I would hear from random people "Harris is alright, except for the Trans stuff". Like... Huh??

Fuckheads like mister "toss the least of us under the bus, it's fine" need to shut the fuck up. It's fuckin hard enough to be in this world as a straight white cis disabled dude, how horrific do you imagine it might be for those who aren't? Thankfully, people like Paul remind us what's at stake.

It's sounds like I'm morally obligated to NOT vote for Democrats because voting for them is a vote FOR throwing trans people under the bus. I think I'd rather just die as society crumbles around me rather than vote for these FREAKS

Doubt it will be a shock to many, but BlessedHawk Esq is currently crashing out and citing his own personal opinion that the accepted UN definition of genocide 'sounds like an overreach' and that it's not a real genocide until camps happen.

For further clarification, here's Raphael Lemkin's original definition of genocide, that goes even further than the Genocide Convention. The only way the international assault on trans rights MIGHT not qualify under it is that trans people aren't a nation, but it's still the best term we have.

There are the same number of red heads in the population. Imagine saying this shit about red heads and getting away with it. Also 1% sounds small, but that's 3.5 million people that's roughly the entire population of L.A.

If you throw trans people under the bus, there is a 100.0% chance that you'll throw me under the bus too. "Vote blue no matter who" not applying to Mamdani shows it was always a lie, so I won't vote for transphobe Dems. Either none of us get sent to the camps, or we all get sent to the camps.

I hope so, but I’m afraid that the election diagnoses are going to say they weren’t transphobic enough

Right a lot care for Trans People and are not Trans (me too) and we always have to remember, when they are done with one target they would just search the next. Even when its dont affect you now, its maybe could later.

Might be a bit of a problem that we blame Democrats for being too pro-trans in their campaigns, when the reality is most of those Dems say absolutely NOTHING in support of Trans rights, but their Republican opponents are the ones making it an issue and saying the Dem is super pro trans.

I don't know why it's so hard for these politicians to make a coherent platform based on human rights and personal freedom instead of looking for whatever fascist position they think they can adopt to help poll numbers. People want moral leadership.

* Nutpicking is bad, don't do it * This guy is just wrong: We saw a younger Dem lose his career by going full transphobe following 24 to a much older, Trans friendly Dem. A large majority of Dem voters and politicians want to protect Trans people, we do not need to treat bigots like they have power.

Even being strictly pragmatic, someone folding on trans issues is prepared to fold on a bunch of other shit, too!!! Trans people and allies have been saying this about Newsom since day 1 when it was Illegal to say you wouldnt vote for him, and now look!!

if theres no tanglible consequences why do they keep fuckin losing while pleading as if theyre radioactive

The perspective you are offering is why Roe was overturned. The Democratic coalition would have protected it if southern Democrats weren't subject to the same litmus test as Blue state Democrats. Big tents will protect more rights by allying with the imperfect.

Roe was overturned because Democrats refused to codify it into federal law despite having a triple majority multiple times in the last fifty years. All because the Dems kept platforming pro-life candidates who kept “forgetting” to propose a bill.

See? When I'm advocating for marginalized groups, that means all of them, & if the politician who associates with the Left can't bring themselves to understand that, I don't want anything to do with them. I'm not catering to bigots, whether they're cowardly or outspoken in their bigotry. Fuck 'em!

This represents a critical flaw in humanity... inhumanity. The operative word in 'Trans People" is 'People.' The modifiers are just the spice of the person. It'd be sickening if all we had to eat was mayo on soft white sandwich bread. That's, in essence, what folks who demonize others crave.

It turns out you should just care about other people all the time? Like...empathy even when politically inconvenient should just be the mark of a good person?

But *also* if trans people in the US are say 2 million people and as few as another 2 million people care to vote with them, 4 million votes more or less will absolutely swing elections

Here's the problem - people can see. They see Dems refuse to help a persecuted minority because the polls say it might gain them a few votes. And they completely see that if the goons and thugs ever come for them, those Dems will not be covering their ass, either. And who wants to vote for that?

You talking about the same group of people who got upset when their Sunday brunch was “interrupted” by groups of people demanding that this society believe that their lives matter?

Unfortunately, Martin Niemöller’s poem illustrates the fallacy of what happens whenever you throw minorities to the wolves to save your own skin. It’s literally the entire point of the poem & liberals don’t get it.

I cannot believe that person's followup posts are somehow *worse* than this one, talking about how Trans people will only matter in the conversation "when they get their own MLK or Harvey Milk" So basically "I'll care about trans people when one of them dies in a way I actually notice"

Political leaders willing to throw any groups of people under the bus are also willing to throw other groups under the bus. It's why we have leaders that are cool with bombing kids in iran, starving people in Cuba and funding a genocide in Gaza. Somehow people STILL dont see that

It's misogyny too, they really think "males" are just insurmountably superior to "females", it's ideological male supremacy being positioned as "just the facts"

I see you don’t understand how biology and transitioning works. That’s OK, many people don’t understand biology past high school freshman understanding. I’ll just give you the easy out: not a single trans woman is a world record holder. Trans women are competing on par with everyone else.

So you support abolishing male/female prisons and housing incarcerated females with men convicted of sexual assault? So you are in favor of abolishing men’s and women’s separate locker rooms in schools and gyms? Most women I know are in favor of these “segregationist” practices

I don't support your approach of forcing trans women to be incarcerated with men, which results in the trans women--predominantly convicted of non-violent offenses--being raped constantly, if that's what you mean.

“focus on the majority. Because we can of course trust that if enough people agree on a thing. That thing will of course. Morally help these people” We are told. As the current majority is not IN FACT helping but trying to use our lives and rights as their gambling chips in a Kalshi government

Thank you SO MUCH for this. So many supposed allies have fumbled their way through mealy-mouthed equivocations about “fairness in sports” or dimply remained silence in the face of bald-faced cruelty. It shouldn’t feel like a miracle for cis people to speak out in support, but it does 💜

If you "temporarily" capitulation on your obligations to the vulnerable now, then there will always always always be very very very good reasons why that capitulation needs to continue after you win.

I hate the cynicism that "both sides" have "demos" they don't believe deserve equal rights. As if the left is just fighting over rank in the hierarchy instead of truly believing everyone deserves things like a living wage and affordable healthcare. Even TERFs and red state voters.

the centrists believe this because they don't believe in rights, but they do believe they are always the smartest boy in the room. so if they don't believe in rights, surely no one else does either functionally, they are simply fascists too

Not only is it deeply unethical, but it’s not even going to win them votes. The bigots are going to vote for the bigot party no matter how hard the Dems try to “meet them in the middle” 😤

What, exactly, is controversial about trans persons wanting rights? All they want are the same things as anyone else. Stuff we take for granted. Is it so hard to just let other people live freely how they want?

"We're in power. We've been in power. If you let us stay in power, we'll do the stuff that we should have already been doing while in power". Which, of course, is complete and utter bullshit anyway.

You once yelled at me at one of your shows at the ucb theater because it was going late and it was a weeknight and you were going to play an extra clip from the thing and I’ve seen it dozens of times and I rolled my eyes and I will finally forgive you for it

You make a really good point here! that's one of the differences I've recognized between rep and dem in my life: Democrats seem genuinely to want to make everybody's lives better and republicans want to punish other people for what they think are moral failings, like being gay or poor or foreign.

They haven't done that though. They're actually paid off by the same people the Republicans are to say "we don't have enough" for everything we desperately need, while having PLENTY of money to continue useless, endless wars, and bailout evil corporations that end & ruin lives.

So many celebrities ruin themselves to the point I see their products and react with disgust. But not you. And not @billcorbett.bsky.social or the @rifftrax.com guys overall. Rooster Teeth spoiled. A certain age of Nickelodeon has been forever tarnished. But thank you for not being the same.

For folks who don’t care about trans people I find it useful to ask them if they prefer to fight a war on another nation’s territory or their own. They may not care about the other nation, but it save those they do care about. Bigots never stop with one minority group, just like belligerent nations.

I don’t understand how dems think they win by alienating a large group of people - and their allies - who typically vote for them. Dems desperately vie for republican votes they won’t get when the winning answer is keep the voters they already have.

I left the church years ago, but that line "Whatsoever you do, to the least of my brothers, this you do unto me" is folded deep in my psyche. "Brothers" = all humans (& maybe all living beings) And "least" can mean few in numbers, downtrodden or outcast groups

The greatest frustration i have of the last 20 years is being forced to vote for thr lesser of two evils. Ya one is far worst than the other by alot i still dont have to like not haveing a good option left.

I hope every anti-trans democrat loses and if that means 2 more years of unchecked Trump bring it on. I’m fucking done with stupid limp dick losers and their inability to address bigotry from the democrats.

Rights for all, or rights for none. We do not budge on human rights, no matter how small of a percentage of the population they are. If even one person does not get rights, then there's no sense in preserving rights for anyone, most especially the oppressors.

What is the evidence Dems have abandoned anybody? A few conservatives running for close seats talking about children’s sports, and the actions of a different political party in a different country?

they are running anti trans adds on both parties... For trans people that sure does feel like being abandonded.. in several states both parties want trans people dead.. SC and Ohio stand out.. Your not being informed about it doesn't mean it isn't happening.

So right up until they change the official party line on the platform paperwork, you do not care how many individual senators or congress people take it on themselves to make anti trans adds and public statements... Fair.. I draw the line another way.. You're being absolutist.

Even if you don't care about the ethics of it (and you SHOULD), does this guy think Democratic politicians further cementing their reputation as spineless weenies who don't actually stand for anything is going to help matters?

Also, there are no "consequences" for a dem candidate or the party when they lose. That's entirely imaginary. It's 2026, the leadership has not been moved by anything but Trump's whims and fear of progressive/left influence. Forcing a Republican into a seat only punishes the people under them

Weird phrasing on the part of the OP. A democrat win isn't typically a win for the left. As we have seen time & time again. The graveyard of social movements is always looking for new ways to bait & switch / con & screw the voters.

In Mass, Rep. Seth Moulton threw trans people under the bus after the 2024 election. He soundly lost his primary challenge to Sen. Ed Markey, in no small part because of those comments. Long way to go but, fortunately, we are seeing some consequences.

These same people will spin around and shout at you when you say you're not voting dem too - you can't have it both ways, either my vote is disposable or it isn't

trans people have family and friends and people that generally just care about all people. It's a lot more than 1%. It's enough to lose the most easily winnable election of all time, and I know a few, and they're not going to throw their kids under the bus.

Reminds me of the fascists who rationalized horrible program style treatment against Jews by arguing that Jews constituted some microscopic percentage of the overall population and therefore were meaningless and useless and could be dispensed with without a second thought or any moral qualm.

I'm autistic and people fucking love throwing us under the bus, so I'm not going to sit idly by while some other group gets thrown under instead. Odds are each of us or someone we love is on the list they're willing to sacrifice. None of us are free unless all of us are.

There also are just a lot of people who see the Democrats as spineless losers who believe in nothing and things like trans rights are places where the dems can show that they aren't cravens. Failing to show up for your allies does not inspire others to flock to your banner.

Well, one way I am showing support is calling my senator and congresscretin to say that unless they denounce the anti-trans Dems, I won't vote for them!

Some people think voters who will NEVER vote for a Dem candidate are suddenly going to back a Dem candidate because that candidate tossed a group under the bus. Most candidates know this doesn't work. The DNC and Dem establishment will throw away the election so the rich and donors always win.
