PARKSIDE: DECAYED SOUL MANIPULATION IS OUT NOW ON STEAM Shoot, hack, and either save or sour the future of humanity in the dystopian city of Abbotsford, California in the awful year of 2038. Will you serve the Divine Rod? LINK IN COMMENTS #gamedev #indiegame #immersivesim

Close enough: Baked into JavaScript at build time which isn’t really better, it’s the modern version of hard coded sensitive data into HTML. I’m guessing it’s vibe coded or done by a college student

Boo!-per Lund@cooperlund.online

They’re hard coded into the HTML because the last time that anyone with money in Silicon Valley actually touched code was 2002

this graduation speech moment is notable, and her amazed shock at having failed to read the room feels instructive. when you're inside the bubble, you think everybody else is. but everybody isn't.

Aside from how funny it is to pick Sydney Sweeney as an example, my favorite line from the article has gotta be: "Their supply chains run on the principles of corruption and inefficiency that are the communist hallmark."

What's the charge? Serving a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?

A young man from Sichuan, China goes to "Skid Row" in Los Angeles to feed the homeless. Ends up getting arrested.

I'm fine with this. Morrowind doesn't need a remake the original is ebtte than it ever was with a mod scene that's still super active. Tamriel Rebuilt is probably the most impressive mod for any game ever made

IGN@ign.com

"Go back and play Morrowind and tell me that’s the game you want to play again," said Bruce Nesmith, who worked for Bethesda for over 17 years, adding that playing The Elder Scrolls 3 "would not stand the test of time." https://bit.ly/4q4GoKh

I’m old and have a lot less at stake than many people. If I get arrested, I won’t lose my pension. If I get shot, I’ll lose 10-20 years of arthritis getting worse and worse. I have no reason not to rouse a little rabble.

it is the better option, though

China Law Translate / Jeremy Daum@chinalawtranslate.bsky.social

Seeing a surge in "pro-China" sentiment following the increasing open distrust of the US. It's bordering on Sinotopian in the other place. Sadly, this isn't a pendulum or seesaw dichotomy; China isn't a better option just because the US looks worse. Please, adjust your metaphors accordingly:

My dad took me to see the lion king in a tiny theatre. Aside from us there was only a father and his daughter. When the movie ended it turned out the staff had left while the movie was playing, locked the door and had forgotten the time so we had to use the fire exit to leave

Dave Levitan@davelevitan.bsky.social

Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences? Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion. As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Netanyahu said that an Iranian nuclear strike on Israel would be like “10,000 tons of TNT falling on a country the size of New Jersey (22,610 km2).” Israel has dropped 200,000 tonnes of explosives on Gaza (365 km2) - the equivalent of 20 nukes on 1.6% the size of New Jersey.

I kid you not, @itch.io has been taken down by Funko of "Funko Pop" because they use some trash "AI Powered" Brand Protection Software called Brand Shield that created some bogus Phishing report to our registrar, iwantmyname, who ignored our response and just disabled the domain

Going to post about demos I played during Steam's Next Fest. I'm mostly playing immersive sims or imsim-adjacent games but there's some other stuff in there too.

PARKSIDE: DECAYED SOUL MANIPULATION FPS imsim Didn't like the tutorial but really loved the missions. Feels heavily Cruelty Squad inspired without being too derivative. The world is interesting, the game plays really well and the visuals are very low-fi but cohesive and end up looking good.

Echo Point Nova FPS From the makers of Severed Steel, one of my all time favorite indie games, comes an extremely fast paced FPS that has you zooming around with a hover board and grappling hook while shooting enemies. I'm bad at it but it's a blast.

B.C. Phiezophile Underwater mech horror I love the concept for this game, but I ran into a bug which stopped my progress which ruined the mood a little. The game looks great and the controls definitely feel like you're piloting a mech deep underwater so I'll keep a close eye on this game.

SAEKO: Giantess Dating Sim Visual novel horror This is not the kind of game I usually play but tried it on a recommendation and found it pretty neat. The art is great, as is the music. The dialog writing is OK at best except for at the end where it gets super tense which was impressive.

THRESHOLD Survival Horror This demo is a very short prologue to the main game. It does a really good job at creating an atmosphere and introducing the intriguing setting, but it's difficult to judge how the game would actually play out. The atmosphere is so good I'll likely get this game on release.

I'm no good at food photography but I just made the most kickass mapo tofu (with mushroom instead of pork). It was so tasty I just had to post about it
