We just launched a 16TB archive of every dataset that has been available on data.gov since November. This will be updated day by day as new datasets appear. It can be freely copied, and we're sharing the code behind it to help others make their own archives of data they depend on.
This is what I meant when I said in 2024 that when I looked at the incoming administration, all I could see was rape. It’s the heinous act itself, yes, but also a mentality, as deftly explained here:
In the first three years after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the constitutional right to an abortion in June 2022, more than 900 women faced criminal charges for conduct related to their pregnancies.
After 1.5 years of pouring my heart into my very first game, I'm so excited to finally announce that...

I'm reminded of all the English failson explorers who went to places colonialism had ravaged and then wrote home like, "oh, the rest of the world must be starving because they're too stupid to grow enough food"
RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."
"The woman, identified only as Maria, is a home care worker who had been on her way to pay rent and pick up a cake for her grandson’s birthday, SEIU said"
We're reading about it because she belongs to a union & they're fighting alongside her.

Bullshit. Ask any tenant. The loophole that allows homes which don't meet housing code should be closed, and tenants should have stronger rights to habitable housing.
99% of Boston’s homes violate Boston’s zoning code. They are not illegal to live in, buy, or sell. But if Boston burned down tomorrow, it would be illegal to rebuild 99% of its homes the way they are today. When 99% of homes break the law, the problem is the law, not the homes. (1/8)
My housemate returned from a shopping expedition at Fred Meyer - food for 4 adults for a week - with no fruit, no veggies, and a shellshocked expression.
“Shelves were bare.”
This is the essential point!
If we expect someone to 'do the work' of reading and reviewing a book, we should expect them to be paid properly for that work.
And this goes for so much other underpaid work out there.
I think at least part of this comes down to stagnant/declining per word rates, and that reading is a time and labour intensive activity. Reading an entire novel for a piece of work that might not pay more than £150 is not a sustainable business.
Wow… this is powerful.
“If saying no doesn’t stop it, then you do what you do when there’s an emergency to get help. You make something big happen. Pull a fire alarm. Break a window. Push the yellow strip on the subway. Someone being assaulted is an emergency and it requires a big, loud response.”
“A commitment to not remain silent.”
Stephen Beatty, Headmaster of Royal St. George’s College here in Toronto addressed the Senior School during assembly and it’s damn good.
As Rep. Max Miller campaigns for a third term, a trove of court and police records obtained by Mother Jones details allegations of physical abuse, drug use, and misogyny raised during a bitter custody battle with his ex-wife.
New filing: "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA v. APPLE INC. (Department of Justice sues Apple for antitrust violations.)"

i also already called this out earlier today but it bears repeating: the real threat to the players isn't going psycho, it's that chrome has them get profiled, ostracized, give up their privacy, and be the scapegoat in all circumstances. can you tell this was made by a black man for white audiences
So we are supposed to believe that democrats are throwing trans people under the bus so that they win and then trans people will be safe because they are just fibbing?
"The Western Australian government has said it is “extremely disappointed” and is seeking an “expedited” cost recovery from Deloitte after errors were discovered in a report about a potential university merger, including AI-hallucinated references…."
I have been yelled at to both eat and share links bc my friends are bullies. I would need well over $5000 I’m likely gonna be evicted soon anyway but here’s some links.

“tldr; ease is not the enemy of social progress. it’s actually kind of weird to put them in direct opposition like that; making things easier can often be good for people and the planet…”

am I the only one who thinks that men's inability to control their anger should be considered an aggravating factor in violent crime cases instead of a mitigating one?
Like you should LOSE something when someone gets hurt or killed because you can't rein your shit in.
Guy at dinner complaining to me about all the foreigners while pointedly nodding at some young lads and on another table that are of I think Indian or Pakistani descent.
When I pointed out my obviously not Australian accent I got. “Yeah buts that’s different you’re Christian”.
The LLM bubble - in the ‘60s
Every household will pay for a Cray supercomputer;
To calculate the weekly shopping.
We must spend spend spend on supercomputers until they see how much they need them.
What is true is that this was a conflict—and make no mistake, this was a conflict; this was a protracted battle in a hybrid war, more than anything—that was largely fought by large numbers of people laboriously working to unfuck the nation's informational environment.
The mobilization itself was already not something I ever expected to see, but to actually win? Hell, to double the winning margin from the 2022 runoff? Genuinely surreal. Maybe child raping billionaires *don't* have to run the world with a shit-eating grin. Maybe that can stop.
A good exercise is to just write the company's name instead of the product they use as a liability buffer. Anthropic and OpenAI are the entities committing all the cybercrimes, we don't have to indulge their pretences :)
Can we stop with the model did this or that? They did the same thing with the Medicare one.
Let's be extremely clear, people did this, not models. They are not sentient.
A person somewhere gave these agents a task, and they set out to complete it.
The people are responsible.
"Anthropic model accessed voter information"
Yes the info is publicly available (for a fee) but "the model bypassed a paywall in accessing the information, according to Georgia officials and Anthropic."
