I always love to see evidence that interesting fiction on the subject of AI is not dead or dying

I'd been waiting in line for what felt like forever. It hadn't been, obviously - only a couple hours - but time seems to stretch out when everyone around you is nervous. And boy were they nervous. Getting your 4o license is a big deal. The guy behind me was visibly sweating; it was freezing.

i got bored of imagegen/video/sunoslop and figured: what if demoscene? here's ring0, a 64k intro for native macOS arm64, single self-contained 53,304 byte Mach-O, no static assets used, all completely synthesized in C and arm64 assembly. opus 5.5, "make a native 64k intro" and a single moodboard

ooohhhh this one stings

I now have permission to share something I hoped would be revealed with much more fanfare I spent more than 3 years as one of the writers of #MassEffect4 It was one of the greatest privileges & GLORIOUS challenges of my life So when I say I am devastated by the end of #MassEffect I REALLY mean it

Hey gang let’s reverse engineer Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, decompile the Trilogy edition, add the multiplayer back in, and revive an unlikely all-timer

Anyway what’s the Mass Effect IP going for now. I could scrape up a couple hundred bucks, wonder if they’d let it go

I don’t mean I’d toss that into a crowdfund. I mean I’ll give EA two crisp hundred dollar bills in exchange for personal, sole ownership of the Mass Effect IP rights.

you know every few weeks I'd think to myself, hey, they're still working on that Mass Effect game...all kinds of interesting things they could do with it...the world isn't so bad, really...........

Of course upon learning that his father had obtained a longed-for copy of Tom McHenry’s high fantasy masterpiece DUCKBORNE CHRONICLES, the boy demanded to have it read to him at bedtime

just got another frisson thinking about this. 25, the 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘦𝘳?

Paul Starr@pa.ulst.ar

He was 25?? Orson Welles wrote, directed, and starred in Citizen Fucking Kane when he was twenty-five years old????

Even if Gruber is right about X being where the zeitgeist is, I think I would rather consign myself to irrelevance than live with the knowledge that I came crawling back.

Cosmopolitanism is best understood as a form of meta-consciousness that lets you see through the arbitrariness of social convention, thus freeing yourself from unnecessary limitations on human perspective and opening up more value from more cultural experiences

PMC Vanguardist@tylerboschert.bsky.social

The more chauvinistic we are about our cosmopolitanism, the more cosmopolitanism *becomes* "authentic." It's a self-solving problem if you allow it to be.

I love that アップ is absolutely a computer term in Japanese and that if you don’t already know what it means, there is no way you’re going to be able to guess

saying that LLMs makes you lazy is mostly incorrect, and ignores one of the actually harmful things about them: it means that as long as you're still capable of talking, you're capable of working. you can overwork yourself in ways that were never remotely possible before

i have lived here my whole life, and i have never once seen a plane take off from the Willamette… …let alone do THIS. wtf.

Exordia-coded observation

“So elementary *and ugly*” I think researchers have an anti-ugly bias and the universe might actually be ugly as hell and we just think it’s a beautiful elegant work of art because we just ignore the jank and assume we haven’t found the beautiful underlying solution yet.

I had a dream last night involving a malevolent intelligence that was a very large prime number and I think there was some kind of time-travel thing going on where someone was trying to prevent its discovery from corrupting the rest of math

not yet merged into github.com/olaugh/pfsynth main branch. i made some progress on physically modeled synth for the violin family. some registers and some techniques are still sounding rough. didn't stop me from making a demoscene style string quartet tracker. they let you post anything on here

Last night was A Man for All Seasons, which was great. As is usual, Molly had the best observation about it, which was: "Did we just watch a legal thriller?"

Paul Starr@pa.ulst.ar

We watched Citizen Kane last night; it was my first time seeing it. Unfortunately I’m going to be obsessed with Orson Welles for a while, we regret the disruption of whatever else I was doing here

couldn't find where I'd posted this before so here's a new render of my prestige TV-style fly-through of part of Chauvet Cave, now with improved texture and lighting
