Pigeons are often treated as pests, a nuisance to be exterminated, when they're just the same as stray cats and dogs : pets that were abandoned a long time ago. There's a ton of misconceptions about them, when they're quite clean, some of the most intelligent birds, and very affectionate. So PSA :

Examples of design J. I love how it tells a story about birds and rivers, each increasing banknote shows a bird from close to the source to close to the sea. Also love how colorful they are instead of being 1/2 colors at most like some other designs. (General description as alt text in next post)

4) The most misleading part : us "starting" to eat pigeons. Farming pigeons for food (when we moved forward from capturing semi-wild ones) was the main drive to keep pigeons along with byproducts. They reproduce fast and are low maintenance, making them a good food source.

2) Again, not exactly clear on how they perceive magnetic fields (although recent research on iron rich liver immune cells is promising), and we know their ability to home consists of an intricate combination of factors she mentions here, it would be better to frame them as inclusive with eachother.

3) The framing around use in WW1 is a bit misleading as she only mentions use by the US army, possibly leading people to think of the US army as a pioneer, the first one to do it or the main user of pigeons. In reality pigeon use in war had been used already for millenia by various different actors.

Few issues I've noticed (unless I'm mistaken) : 1) It's not exactly clear how we domesticated them, but it's not "we took them from the caves". There's a good bit of self-domestication by taking advantage of our crops, and us taking advantage of this to capture a few and eat them.

Rock pigeon update. It’s been a weird week. That’s just where I am at. Glad I chose to work on a pigeon while finishing up the rest of these projects. #art #pigeonsky #bluesky #artist #pencil #painting #watercolor #birds
