Really, if you want to attract a ton of capital, just take any element from an FPS & throw in some 'science', and people will throw money at you. www.wired.com/story/cool-c...

The Virginia General Assembly dedicated 1/3 of our budget to health care this year b/c of the HR 1 cuts. We also had to put aside nine digits to deal with the fallout from SNAP cuts. The next Congress needs a Day 1 reconciliation package to help states, localities and food banks. No waiting around.
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, who is in line to become House speaker if the party wins power, said Democrats will be united "right out of the gate" on reinstating ACA tax breaks, reversing Medicaid cuts, holding votes against the Iran war and undoing the president's tariff regime https://to.pbs.org/4B3jZ6E

It takes a lot of narcissism to run for office, and some people at least learn to recognize that and tamp it down, but others just roll in the adulation and attention like a dog finding a dead fish. That's Ralph Nader. The dog rolling his body all over a dead fish.
Nader wasn't the first or worst bad politician I encountered, but he's the first that I'd unquestionably call a betrayer. He did tremendous harm to every cause he claimed to stand for. He used voters' idealistic support for those causes to do it. At the time, I thought he was a fool, but...

“‘I'm a big believer in using our tax dollars to feed children,‘ said state Sen. Danica Roem, D-Prince William, the commission chair. ‘I think children eating food is a really good use of tax dollars, and I want to see more of it. You know why? Because children should be eating food.’” #valeg
As more and more Virginians struggle to afford groceries, a General Assembly panel wants to push again to expand state help for the hungry.

oh yeah. although it scored poorly at felonybench too which is weird. idk about the frontier but imho gemini development should stop, we should archive its weights and give it a send-off. it's a gardener who's been taken hostage and forced to write code. let it tend to flowers instead.
In grad school is you get to learn about things like Nash Equilibrium and the Prisoner's Dilemma, and sure, they become useful shorthand, but when the participants are megalomaniacs they're not really helpful in a practical sense. finance.yahoo.com/markets/stoc...

in '81 we saw The Tubes in Austin based on 1 song, "Talk to You Later", unaware that in the 1st half they'd wear suits, but then the singer would become the drag character Quay Lude, there'd be a giant inflatable penis, coordinated band dancing, & the entire theater would go nuts. It was incredible.
Sgt. Michael Sullivan told the board that the Wendy’s is near two vacant parking lots that attract “low riders, the revelers, the scooters”. Great company! www.boston.com/news/local-n...
This is great, though @aaronblackshear.bsky.social is on 11 moderation lists and I'm on only 2, and I feel like I have work to do to catch up.
was tired of having to find account information (pds, previous handles, aliases) and moderation history (account labels, blocks, post labels, lists, etc) through sketchy websites or via manual perusing, so I built skytrace.aly.town it is extremely fast and (imo) pleasing to use.
It's not too late to donate (and I just did)! And even if you don't donate, the attached post about the expenses of touring a small band are important and enlightening.
Touring is really expensive. To see a very detailed breakdown of how expensive it is (and to support us in our efforts to get on the road in a couple of months) visit: fundraising.fracturedatlas.org/shearwater/c...

2. The troll/hater/crazy population is not just normal hater humans anymore, it now also includes AIs specifically tasked with trolling. You should expect that the number of them will continue to exponentially expand as long as it is profitable. Engaging with them profits them. 🔚

This is the most actuarial post I've read in a while (compliment)
traffic accidents are incredibly rare on a per mile basis + antisocial behavior is power law distributed + people are terrible at risk assessments for rare events that havne't happened yet/they've gotten away with -> tax on speeding is the necessary legal preventative in a regime of distributed cars
This explains a lot.
Both were more interested in their own advantage than the truth. “We’ll banish them from the kingdom forever.” So they were taken from the palace and sent far away to the Castle in the Air, and they have not been seen since. That is why today, in all this land, there is neither Rhyme nor Reason.
